Just won an ebay auction for FF-X and FF X-2 for $10 total.  I've never played either of them, moderately excited.  =)

Moderately excited is a good approach to take with FFX and X-2. Be wary of the minigames though.

If you want to play X-2 only once, you'll need a guide to 100% it.
Getting 100% gives you the extended ending and it's impossible to do it without a guide.

Ok then.  A guide it is!

Not when the 100% requirements are nothing short of ridiculous.

I suggest this one: http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/562386-final-fantasy-x-2/faqs/23915

And D, trust me, this game requires a guide. I'd say some of the stuff you have to do is even less intuitive than getting the A ending in Valkyrie Profile.

Just the moogle thing right at the start of the game can kill your playthough (yes, not even 5 minutes after being in control, you can kill your playthrough... fun stuff to discover 60 hours later)

Horror stories are usually about stuff like that or even skipping "spoken" dialogue which leaves you out of a percent.

... Hm, I kinda like the idea of endings based on % completion than specific event-requirements.

@Annubis: Wait.

"Can you skip scenes?

No. It affects the %."

Holy crap.

You should watch the Spoony Bard's reviews of these once you finish.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong here since I haven't played X-2...but I'm pretty sure that guide or no guide this game isn't going to make me feel like a "real man".

I unapologetically love the transformation sequences in X-2 since they remind me of Sailor Moon, and I feel no less the man for it.

Me too! Though I put them on short after the first viewing. Ain't nobody got time for that.
