I think I've said this in countless threads about gender in video games, but gender of protagonist aside, it's very very VERY rare when video games script relationships properly. Relationships are difficult to write.  Heck, many love adventures (which are all about relationships) are written with by-the-numbers scripting with archetypical characters.

And insert Dincrest's usual spiel about Maya in Septerra Core.  Oh, and insert something about the awesomeness of Fear Effect, because that may end up being relevant to this discussion.

*looks at Dice's signature*

So according to that article, does this mean that all the proposals I've been getting in FE:Awakening has been nothing more than me trying to marry myself?

Whatcha talkin' bout? Waifus are real.

Japan: You can play as a female hero, but they can't have a boyfriend, so the heroine can be "single" for the male player.

Amurrica:  You can play as a female hero, but they can't have a boyfriend, because a guy is kissing a guy as a girl -- and that's gay.

((for the record, I'm just being a goofball here))

maybe it's cause i had a barbie doll as well as gijoes as a kid or three older sisters that influenced me but i enjoy female player character's more often than male ones. i'd rather play as a bad assed chick than some beefy bro dude. maybe it's just me but i'd really like to see the industry get ahead of the curve.
