Mind 0 is not Persona...er...well...maybe not...

Hey, there's a new game coming in Japan which alternates between daily school life with 2D event scenes  and a mysterious other world where certain people can summon entities that represent their unconscious to engage in 3D turn-based battles!  And it's published by a company who's name starts with 'A'!

That's right, it's Mind 0 by Acquire!  What did you think I was talking about?

That said, I'm a little surprised there aren't more Persona clones out there.  It's clearly a popular setup and Atlus themselves aren't exactly churning them out...being a clone doesn't mean it has to be bad.  And the Vita could use more RPGs (though it really feels like things have been turning around for it lately).

is it wrong of me to be rather enticed by this....???

while P3 and P4 have been over-done to the point of exhaustion, they have not been thoroughly or successfully ripped off yet... i've got room to digest a persona rip off visually if its done well enough mechanically...

and certainly, some series have clearly lended to others while both standing on their own.... look at tales and star ocean....

not that I think this stands a snowballs chance in hell of becoming anything comparable to persona, as star ocean became  to tales (i think tales came first by a year or so) but then again by the same token it is a wee bit early to rule it out isn't it?

What these pics are telling me is that Atlus has a legitimate case on this one.

I haven't seen such outright plagiarism since Darksiders 2.

Well, it looks like it's a first person dungeon crawler, so that's kind of different...yes I'm aware that the original Persona was also first person.  But the rest of the design seems cribbed from 3/4.

Honestly I'm with Klyde on this one.  It's pretty obviously a clone, but I think there's room for a clone or two out there.  Nobody else is really copying this formula...

I remember some people called Fate/Extra a Persona clone, but that just baffled me. Yeah, it has the school aspect, but it approaches everything completely differently.

Regardless, I'll keep an eye on this because a different spin on the Persona 3/4 formula might be really interesting.

So far I'm liking what I'm seeing. It my not look as polished as its inspiration but so far it certainly looks like it can be fun. If anything I'm happy to see some more RPGs on the Vita that are not ports.

Also,so what if it is a little too much like Persona? It's not as if Japanese developers weren't copying themselves all the time ans just because it is heavily inspired doesn't mean it can't pull out something fresh.

Just looking at Monter Hunter and its "clones" we can see there is space for many more clones and like Kevadu said, it's not like Persona has been copied so far.

As long as they aren't climbing a tower that only appears at night to fight the representation for Death, it shouldn't really be a problem.
