So basically, it's margarine unsuccessfully pretending to be butter.

Can someone who knows Japanese summarize some of the Amazon reviews? I can tell they're terrible from the star ratings, but I'm not sure what about the game is crap. If the story is good I can put up with shitty mechanics so long as it's functional.

One of the things they hated was the abrupt story ending going by the posts I saw on Neogaf.

So yeah, even if you were going to let story carry it for you you should forget about it.

Wow, that sucks. Why is this game of all things getting localized?

Probably the same reason that Time and Eternity was localized. And while we don't the exact reason, it probably is something along the lines of the US company thinking it looked good before it was released, signing a contract requiring they do a US release, and then discovering that they had made a mistake after it had a Japanese release.

Tangent: I looked up Time and Eternity on Wikipedia to make sure I was remembering the title right and it got a 32/40 from Famitsu. WTF.

And perhaps it's the business decision of trying to snag some money off the Persona trend, seeing as how the Persona games became a flagship series for Atlus.  Kinda saying, "Lookie here, we have one just like it."  The whole "it's just as good as the real McCoy" ploy.

I do love Aksys for several of their localizations, like Hakuoki and 999, but they definitely localized some clunkers.  Mimana Iyar Chronicle was godawful.

EDIT: And WTF at Time and Shiternity getting a 32 from Famitsu?  I remember 15 years ago when Famitsu was seen as gospel, but now I take their review scores with a grain of salt.

Persona. Accept no substitutes.

Even Fabio can't make "I Can't Believe it's not Butter" better than butter.

I had to choose between Demon Gaze and this one. Chose Demon Gaze simply for the Limited Edition. Glad I went that direction.
