My biggest problem with Inuyasha is that the serie was way too long and the ending was complete garbage.
If you cock-tease some final epic fight with your villain for so long, you better have it be epic.

SPOILERS
Code:
Sesshoumaru kills Naraku (not even Inuyasha) and it only took one very simple effortless generic sword slash.

Guilty pleasures are guilty for a multitude of reasons.  Some people may love a show, but be hush-hush about it because they may not want to be associated with that particular fanbase.  Or maybe they have a reputation for being intellectual or whatnot, and feel like enjoying a "fluff" show kinda goes against who/what they're supposed to be.  Or maybe a show is targeted at a particular demographic, and we enjoy it despite being far removed from that demographic.  For example, adult males who enjoy Sailor Moon- a show whose main demographic is 6-12 year-old girls.

Like I said, my guilty pleasure anime/manga is not popular or really very good.  You could name a ton of examples in its genre that are MUCH better.  But somehow it strikes a chord with me and I love it.

It's almost like with dating.  Don't you hear stories all the time from people who are conflicted because they're in a relationship with someone who's completely not their type/ pretty much the opposite of what they usually date but are genuinely happy?  You think, as an outsider, that there should be no conflict.  If you're happy, be happy.  Like what you like.  But sometimes, you feel like you have to justify liking what you like, whether it's to yourself or others.  You know?

That's a very astute observation there, Dincrest. I really liked the analogy at the end. Kudos to you man!

Well, my biggest one is Fruits Basket. I'm definitely not the target demographic but I have the show on dvd and bought every manga volume.

There, its out. I can breathe a bit easier now.

O...over a year? That can't be right. I remember this thread as if it was made only a few months ago...

I was at my local comic book store not long ago and randomly flipped through a volume of Shinji Ikari Raising Project manga, which is a "slice of life" offshoot of Evangelion.  It wasn't necessarily good because it had nothing in it that made Evangelion cool and was pretty much like any other paint-by-numbers, tropey slice-of-life manga, but for some reason I found myself enjoying it.  Not enough to buy it, though.

Yea, I've never picked that up cause I felt like they were just milking the Evangelion name. Which is a bit of a hypocritcal reason cause I'd probably buy anything if you just slap a NERV logo on it haha!

I just made mention of it in the journal but it totally fits this thread here.

Senran Kagura.

Yup, after a brief period of not watching any anime for awhile this guilty pleasure came out of left field and grabbed me. I recently fell in love with this titles terrible-ness. The quintessential example of a guilty pleasure for me here, I can't honestly say objectively there is anything "well done" about Senran but I love it all the same.

I have actually sort of struggled to identify what it is I like about it. I typically can't stand fan service and don't dig shallow plots. Something here resonated with me though.

R-15 is a huge guilty pleasure for me. It speaks to the pervert that controls my inner being. <3

Ouran High School Host Club.

I love shenanigans-filled shtick and all things screwball comedy. I'm a sucker for these things, plus Vic Mognogna and the rest of the dub cast are really well-cast. It's ridiculous and crazy and kinda left-wing, and I would not have it any other way.

Kill la Kill

I haven't watched it in nearly a year, becuz college, but it was a similar sitch to OHSHC; it was so godd### ridiculous and scenery-chewing, over-the-top crazy that I couldn't bear to look away for long. Look forward to revisit it during summer break.

One of the few shows I marathoned past year was Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live. I tend to watch a lot kid stuff over teen stuff (Precure, Digimon, super robot stuff), though I don't think this is necessarily a guilty pleasure. More like I enjoy the pure fun orientation of them, along with many being anime originals, which brings some perks like shows having an ending. I'm not going to say every show is worth it, but they certainly can be and if they are, I don't hesitate to think as highly of them as I do with something like LoGH. Being simple and being orthodox is not a sin nor a flaw, I feel.

You know, Gumball is one of the few current-day cartoons I not only don't mind watching with my kid relatives, but I can enjoy it on its own.  At first I wasn't into it, but it grew on me and now I think it's hilarious.  It has originality and with so much media (books, TV movies, music) being so cookie-cutter nowadays, Gumball's a refreshing dose of wacky originality.

And if anyone remembers Jetix back in the day (it's Disney XD now), W.I.T.C.H. was a surprisingly good show.  I thought it would just be another ho-hum "non-Japanese trying to do magical girl anime, nobody can do that better than the Japanese, I am an immature weeaboo" but then I actually watched a few episodes and was like, "Damn, this show's actually pretty cool."

And I'll admit it, I had a brony phase.  Massive guilty pleasure there.  I phased out of that after season 4 (which I thought was awful) but I might still watch it once in a while... if/when no one's around.  That's another show that, at least in the early going, turned out to be surprisingly solid.  It was a couple buddies of mine who got me to watch it.  I was all like, "Dude, My Little Pony?!?!  What are you, a 6 year old girl?!?!?!"  But then they pulled the Sailor Moon defense of "Well, Sailor Moon is made for the 6-12 year-old girl demographic and you like that."  So I watched some and was like, "This isn't bad, it's not bad at all, it's rather good I'd say."

And my guilty pleasure comic books are Damsels in Excess and Zombie Tramp.

Yeah Winx Club.  That show looked so cheap and it was awful.
