is it ok for me to think this is the best final fantasy in years?

Yes, because it is.  It is everything a Final Fantasy game should be and more.

I've been saying that too. Heavensward is completely awesome. The main story is interesting, well-paced (especially for an MMO), and feels super Final Fantasy.

Also seriously the soundtrack:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCXfzpTUu8I (dungeon name spoilers)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe9mLH3egLg (ishgard night-time in the Foundation)

I can't say enough good things about it right now.

You guys are getting me really interested here, since I haven't gotten it yet myself. I didn't care much for the ARR story personally, just didn't care about any of the characters and it was "go stop the Primal" repeated 3 or 4 times interrupted by the some of the most awkward FedEx quests I've seen (I'll never stop making fun of it for interrupting the quest to stop Titan with "we need to throw a dinner party, go get some cheese from this dungeon").

Yeah, you guys are making it really tempting to come back to the game. But that's the major flaw with the game: Square has created a system where if you don't keep up, you're never going to catch up so why bother. At least, that's how I felt when I was playing way more each week than I wanted to just so I could keep up with the weekly token limits. Never even had time to do the little non-dungeon content the game had, because what time I had to play had to be spent farming dungeons for tokens.

I have no problem keeping up and I do literally 0 of the weekly/daily quest/token things. There are altenrative ways to do it, which is good because I refuse to grind 400 dungeons for gear that will drop from bunnies in the next patch.

I was not expecting jazz. But it's made for the most relaxing dungeon running ever.

Heavensward is alright. It has Elezen, dragons and dragoons. Perhaps I should make a suitable character for this expansion.

I'm back in the game myself and had to catch up a bit, and playing through patch 2.4 content and beyond with the buildup to Heavensward makes me feel like they're finally going somewhere.  I like the main story for the expansion so far and they're trying to make it feel like a JRPG where you have companions with you on your journey.  You actually feel like less of a third leg in cutscenes too.  To make an analogy, I feel like I'm now in season 3 of Star Trek TNG with most of the awkward left behind.  There's real potential here and I hope it ends on a strong note.

The side quests still suck shit for the most part.  I'm having a great time regardless.  My monk wants to be Goku.

I just finished
Code: [Select]
killing Nidhogg in Cloud of Mists or whatever and OH GOD ALL THE QUEST MARKERS. I am deathly afraid of how many moogles I have to find... ... :(

I love the main story though. In ARR they kinda had to start over (even with existing characters) but in HW they can actually build on that and use their own characters that they introduced in ARR. I think of it a san extremely long build up, and that they finally figured what they were doing starting in 2.3 or so (or at least how to tell it better).

And my new limit break is awesome :D

...but really I just want to craft more. *twitch*

Exactly why I quit FFXIV and MMOs in general.
