Probably the same reason the Friday night slot on TV is called the death slot.

Muramasa Rebirth, The Last of Us, Dragon's Crown, Tales of Xillia...

I don't know about you, but there are more games I want coming out this summer than in the oh-so-important "holiday season"...

Holiday seasons have been getting drier anyway, no doubt because of just how BIG games like CoD are.

Actually, no, half of them are in June.  I guess you're right that July is a slow month...but then so is April.

Can you elaborate more on this point?

I did a google and after going through a Kotaku story saw this. It's possible they're a minority on consoles, but in the grand scheme of things the age group most of us are probably in is the real minority.

And anyways as I recall July's historically THE worst month to release games. Or was it May? At any rate for whatever reason it's just an awful time to release games, probably because others are going on vacations or whatever without any significant non-outdoors shopping events hitting.

Meanwhile, I for one, welcome my glorious backlog overlords.

Also, I need someway to replenish my coffers after the winter/spring and there isn't a better time to mow a few yards down than during the summer (plus garage/yard sales don't hunt themselves).
