Square Enix is not working on Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile, or Romancing SaGa games -- NeoGAF

Not surprising, but disheartening. I suppose we can throw Mana in there as well.

Did anyone else not even know FFXIV existed until you saw it randomly go on sale on like Steam or something one day, a year later? I know I wasn't the only person in my circle of acquaintances that did, but...

FFXIV isn't exactly a minor release and its relative obscurity kind of speaks volumes.

You didn't hear about it because FFXIV 1.0 was a horrible game to the point that even the usual game critics that score of scales of 7-10 gave it sub-5 scores.

It's commendable they are putting so much effort into fixing the game, though.

you say that like its a horrible loss

Didn't Star Ocean actually ended?

I know Dawn of Mana is unpopular but weren't the DS games at least somewhat well received?

Sword was sub-par.
Children was okay.
Heroes was god awful.

The art and music of the series is great and all, but I'd rather see that talent being put on games that are actually good.

I wouldn't exactly call the end of Star Ocean 3 "closure." And Star Ocean 4 was a prequel.

I wouldn't exactly like to play something after Star Ocean 3.

Another Valkyrie Profile would be way better if it ever happens in the future.

Goddamn.... I'm surprised, after all their failures they wouldn't feel comfortable with going back to a loved-series; that's easy press

Valkyrie Profile on PS3 would be fucking insane.... but Tri-Ace is busy with a lot of other crap work (and making Frontier Saga or something like that).  You guys can hate on Star Ocean all you want, but the battle system and gameplay outclasses most game series' in complexity and intricacy.

The "Mana" series has a great formula that should make almost any title they add to the series good...but they get...lazy ...or something ...and fuck it up!

Romancing SaGa I can live without, but I'm sure people are upset... huh, I thought the DS remakes of the GameBoy games did well though?  I'm surprised Squeenix stopped there with regards to maybe taking on the Mana series (maybe remake Secret and Seiken 3)

VP is also stuck. The only thing they can do is to make a prequel to Valkyrie: Silmeria.

That or make a game where Asgard gets attacked by alien gods and Lenneth Creator goes to war.
So, war against giants v2. This time with no Odin being an asshat.

I know VP is popular among this crowd, but did those games even sell well?  It never really struck me as a big name franchise for S-E.

That's because the VP games didn't sell well. Even after the first got a remake on psp which made it better, it still didn't perform so well. VP is a cult hit at best.

I kind of think of Square Enix like a bad friend right now. They've been messing around with stuff they shouldn't, and it's pissing me off. They try to come back and show they've changed, but they just cover they're shit with more shit. Either we cut them off completely and they realize their errors, or they keep sinking until they're completely gone. We can't buy into their bullshit, we have to stand strong no matter how hard they beg and how much they plead and offer us gifts, it won't make them wake up and realize they're only hurting themselves in the long run.

Nope =\.  I remember it being released and thinking that it might be fun.... and then the reviews shat all over it.

Strangely this is one of the reasons I want to try ARR.  Well that and it does look pretty good.
