I thought the ending to ME3 was like a minor point in the overall thesis.

But yeah, I agree that we're in the middle of a shift. Indie on the rise, AAA on the decline.

He made this big point about how bad endings in xyz games (not just ME3) means the industry is going off the rails, which is total bullshit. He didn't talk about gameplay a single time during that video except when referencing the shitty games in 1983.

That being said, his info for how the video game companies haven't recovered from the recession is an interesting point.

He has a point about deadlines on games pressuring developers to cram stuff in and that lowering quality, potentially owing to a crash at some point, but it would probably be coupled with development costs going up primarily because people demand new system pushing graphics and multiplayer (very expensive) driving development costs up and making big budget games so big they can't profit because they're market is big but still too small.

TL;DR graphics and multiplayer are eating away at this industry, and if graphics fall behind due to cost cutting, people complain that they look "too old" though alternatively games could be exclusively single player or multiplayer.

I mostly pop in occasionally to give my two cents on certain controversial things, so if you disagree then send a PM, because I generally don't check for replies in threads in case I feel like replying and then things get heated/derailed.

something i took away from it is the idea that big publishers are basically living paycheck to paycheck and thats why they spazz out when something like tomb raider only sells 3mil. bad endings is simply a symptom of that.

“Normal is not something to aspire to, it's something to get away from.”

The third picture really doesn't mesh well with the other two. You need to google harder next time.

Besides it should be a picture of God's greatest wankery:

The 1983 videogame crash.

I like this version better.
I avoid online multiplayer because my brain still works.

EA Sports Engineer: Wii U is crap, < powerful than 360. No $ 3party. [Tweets Deleted] -- NeoGAF

Is always about the money.

And then they still load the WiiU's library down with yearly sports titles because they're fucking EA.
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

In all seriousness though, the AAA game industry bombing out would be a good thing and would blow the field way open for indie games. The PC gaming ecosystem is incredibly healthy right now, especially with regards to small studios. Then you have the Android and iOS platforms, too.

Right now the PC industry is sort of recessed since the portable devices are encroaching on its territory, but I think the PC industry can make a big resurgence if people start seeing it as a gaming platform. I think the console industry's going to take a hit for being such a closed platform and being expensive to develop for. Probably more of a trend towards the portable systems.

You'd think that, but EA currently have no games in development for the Wii U. They aren't even going to bother with their sports titles.
