Star Ocean 2 - Moderate
I was going through a bad time as school when I picked up SO2, so the idea of being whisked away to some exotic planet sounded just dandy.  But more than that, I loved how the game took you from a futuristic Earth to a really pretty, nature-filled planet; I think the town music in both Arlia and Mars (this song being from the latter) definitely give off that idea of being far from home, but still peaceful with that.

Well, let me place this one down then:
Star Ocean 3 - Calm Mind Reflected in the Pupil

Also, I'm such an airhead. I didn't realize Nobuo's "Waltz for the Moon" during the ballroom scene is just an arrangement of Julie's theme/Eyes on Me. My sister pointed this out to me while I was playing the theme and told me I was playing the ballroom theme. I told her no I wasn't it, until it dawned on me while I was making coffee moments later that's it the same theme, just arranged as a waltz. She surpassed her game music superior that day...I taught her well.

Also: http://youtu.be/i8sjASyoQXk?t=2m55s

These beats are FRESH.

EDIT: I can't quit this game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhcllB-S6cs

These beats are FRESH.

Both tunes in SO3's Aquaria (the town part and the castle theme, Reflected Moon) are stunning and very relaxing.

I also have to give the album a major "tip of the hat" for using a Jazz theme as a final Boss theme (Moody Goddess).

And yeah.  It took me YEEARS before I noticed Barret's theme was just a more up-beat version of Corel's Theme. =/
Julia's theme is everywhere.

Ah, that is jazzy, haha. That's great...I don't recall hearing that track. Kind of reminds me of this: http://avideogamemusicblog.tumblr.com/post/26799409118/title-detective-kidds-theme-album-genso

That arranged Suikoden III album is a real trip...love it.

God that music gave me a nostalgia-gasm. I totes agree about the Arlia and Mars music; much of the music from early Expel became the standard by which I judged other fantasy RPGs for a while. Many of the tracks have a serene otherness to them that will always call up quiet woodlands in my mind every time I hear them.

Or perhaps something a bit more humble in comparison for this victory, such as a a gift of spring: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAndtPjTHfg ;)

Honestly, when I feel a victory, these come into my head more:
[warning, Sakuraba-fan incoming]

http://youtu.be/Qv4JJTYJtEY
Valkyrie Profile's is seriously loud and awesome and makes me wanna dance

http://youtu.be/5qaAwq1uiZg
Star Ocean 3's makes me feel good about myself[?] (it's soothing or something)

http://youtu.be/1Io0DLo_G90
FFX gets special mention because it sounds like the background music of a "Stay Fit/Eat Healthy!" 80s TV campaign.
...I kinda like when the FF series keeps the first 5 seconds of the fanfare and does something 'new'.

But I'll finish with a game that many people probably haven't had much exposure to (which I'd like to think is the better and more latent function of a thread like this):
http://youtu.be/v_RcNKseXN4
Victory!! From Venus & Braves

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ln-6hMxaQgA#t=34s
Of a particular treat is the opening music and imagery (it picks up).

Always a fan of the Sakuraba. ;)

Never heard of Venus and Brave...though I'm not surprised, it's not like I ever actively looked for it or related games. Good catch :)

Also, these arrangements are great:
Battle (VS Trainer) - Pocket Monsters Original Soundtrack Best 1997-2010 Vol.1
Battle (VS Wild Pokémon) - Pocket Monsters Original Soundtrack Best
Battle (VS Gym Leader)
Fight! Gym Leader (Diamond/Pearl)

and here's a victory theme arrangement:  Victory over a Gym Leader! - Pocket Monsters Original Soundtrack Best 1997-2010 Vol.1 . That brass sounds so mocking. ;)

Best Victory Fanfare ever isn't even a victory fanfare:

I personally use that to celebrate all of my big achievements as far as life goes.

Grandia OST - Complete Victory
Grandia II Victory FRESH
Grandia Xtreme: Battle Victory Theme
Game Music You Can't Find Elsewhere: Grandia 3 - Perfect Victory Did anyone else notice that this theme is just an upbeat arrangement of the melodic fragment from the main theme from the first Grandia?

And since I'm linking Grandia, here's a personal anecdote from me:

Before I ever got a playstation, I would search the websites on my brother's ol' IMB computer for fan websites dedicated to games I were interested in (which was practically every RPG that was translated). One of them was a Grandia website that hosted also MIDI files of the game's music. I first heard all the music through that website's MIDI stash and seriouslly though this was the Boss theme of the game. Years later when I finally got a playstation for my christmas/birthday present--bless my parents' soul--I bought this game and found out it was a regular battle theme. My mind was blown, because this didn't sound like regular battle music because it sounded so amazing to me--again, MIDI was my only source of music--that I would go into battles and just kick around to hear the music.

When I stumbled upon vgmusic.com, I think I had a heart attack from excitement. Another personal anecdote from me and then I'll stop flooding the music thread. ;):

For my 8th grade (2001-2) English class, we had to read "My Brother Sam is dead" and do journal entries on each chapter. I ask my teacher instead of writing journal entries, if I could re-write each chapter...and make fun of it in some way. If I remember correctly, she hesitatingly agreed, with reason, but she soon saw that it was an interesting challenge for myself and allowed it. Now, the game music part of this story comes into play here, as while I was re-writing each chapter, I was listening to all the MIDis of Final Fantasy 7, especially these two: Jenova Absolute and Still More Fighting. There were a lot of other things I was listening to, but those stuck out from my memory the most. Also, the only thing I remember from the chapter re-write is something about the main character's mother being a raging drunk and sumo wrestlers.

Oh, and almost forgot: Grandia 3 Music: Boss Battle V1 (A Hot Crash) These beats are also  FRESH

And here's not a Kingdom Hearts tune, absolutely not: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ckxy-i7Dc5U
