Ys Seven - Desert of Despair (only the best desert theme ever created) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnrObjp6RXg

Much as I love Falcom in general and that specific song, I take your "awesome desert theme" and raise you with THE POWER OF NIER!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pJ4Q7L9rBs "Temple of Drifting Sands" (used in the desert outside the Japanese-ish town with all the crazy laws)

Ye, in terms of beauty that song is definately superior(cant wait to play nier that really sounds amazing)
However if you want to kick some ass in the desert you cant go wrong with desert of despair. In that same vein of kicking ass why not
Ys Origin - Silent desert (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQyE4SqOF6c)
or if you fancy some real intrumentation

Hyperduck Soundworks, aka "the guys behind the Dust: An Elysian Tail OST" -- are super-rad.

Also Parn ... that "Smooth McGroove" a capella guy is super-talented. Joypad released his music getting it properly licensed. It's a strange new world we live in!

It really is.  It's crazy thinking how game music was never taken seriously in the late 90s when we were busy recording music directly from games into real player format (I just threw up in my mouth) and just getting the whole game music CD review thing started around here.

Good grief, I just said late 90s.  Can't believe how much time has passed and how much has changed.  Now you can buy full game music albums on iTunes.  Love it.

Oh, how I miss the real player days of buffering and watching that little sheep bop along to the music. I remember my first video game track ever listened to on real player when I finally joined the internetz:

Thousand Arms - Depend on You. And right after that:
Chrono Cross OST - Radical Dreamers ~ Unstolen Jewel

Heck, I'll give you some of the game music from my real player days:

Lemmings Can Can (I'll just post this vid since it's amazing, haha...)
Trunks Hikari No Will Power
Castlevania Symphony of the Night : Marble Gallery
Castlevania SOTN: Wandering Ghosts (In fact, this was perhaps the third game track I heard on Real Player)
Grandia Xtreme -Combat 4 (This track was mind blowing to me when I first heard it in its buffered glory as a kid. I still love this track today :) )
Grandia OST - Battle 1 I didn't hear the original, in fact, if you get this theme and put it through a blender...THAT.
Final Fantasy VI Decisive Battle (Remix) Oof, the nostalgia.

Yeah...that's all I can remember. I'll end with this:  FF6 - The Decisive Battle on Eight Floppy Drives

...since you guys are talking bout deserts, I'll add this: The Lost Angelic Chronicles of Frane: Dragons' Odyssey Original Soundtrack and From The Ground Up (Krokopp Desert Boss)

Also, anyone remember when Big Mog used do video game music posts way back when?

Nier: Kaine's Salvation
One of my favourite songs from NieR. I love how a lot of their music has lyrics. I can't think of much games that do and even those who do don't have it to the extent NieR does.

FFVII Crisis Core: The Price of Freedom

Final Fantasy X: To Zanarkand

Radiant Historia: The Red Locus
I actually loved all the battle themes from Radiant Historia. I liked how they were all named after a colour.

Black and White: Sailor Song
If you have played the game, this song will forever remain in your head.

LOVE the Red Locus. Radiant Historia in general blew my face off in terms of music.

Drives me insane that there wasn't any soundtrack release for this one. I mean, the *old* Glory of Heracles games got OSTs (some of them, anyway...). Why not this one? And with a soundtrack from Hirota-san, who's in Uematsu's new band and who did about half of the Shadow Hearts series OSTs... c'mon!

Missed this. I would totally petition the heck out of them to release a soundtrack for this game. It's so weird that this game went under my radar, and it wasn't until I randomly saw a sale on amazon that I finally caved in to buy it...for my sister (wasn't even for me). She liked it, and I tried it out and fell in love with this game and especially it's soundtrack. I hope they consider at least releasing it digitally...

The Great Warrior - Final Fantasy VII - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrI8bHs6Qvk
Sending a Dream into the Universe - Final Fantasy VII - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOX4AxH83vo

A big reason why final fantasy 7 is along with ffx my favourite game of all time is because of the moments that happen while these 2 songs play. These are the most touching moments in FF7 in my opinion.
