Ys Seven - Vacant Interference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be1II2E7OjY

This is how a boss battle theme should be. It makes you feel badass and powerful. Obviously there are other variants like the boss battle themes who make the boss itself feel intimidating but these are usually my favourites.

Since I've dipped into it recently.

Breath of Fire IV - The End and the Beginning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9lGQHfgPqw
Amazing remix of above song - http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01691/
Burnout Paradise - Liquid Sky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBk3es33DUA

EDIT:

Beware Breath of Fire IV spoilers in the comments.

EDIT 2:

Soul Calibur IV - Infinite Images (more commonly known as the character creation song) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0VY9jMynE8

We're gonna get some Breath of Fire in an upcoming music podcast. mmm... Dragon Quarter...

Also, I still remember when we discovered Liquid Sky. One of us was playing Burnout and the other was all like 'OH MAH GOD WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SONG TURN OFF EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE RADIO.'

Good times.

Excellent, I'll definitely be tuning in. :D

Absolutely, it was a great moment. Then we spent a couple of months looking for anywhere to get that song! All we had was a name, no place to buy it anywhere.

Even that guy who did the complete Burnout series rip album didn't even have it. Oh, the halcyon days of music not being completely accessible. How I do not miss thee.

EDIT:

Just to stay on topic:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjK8njx4fb4 AWESOME boss theme.

EDIT2

Also, I love Infinite Images. It's too bad they totally flubbed SCV. The music was pretty good, but the game was so underwhelming compared to the last few SCs. Also they took out Yunseong. Also I didn't realize Keiki Kobayashi did SCIV's OST. <3 Ace Combat.

https://soundcloud.com/sony-soundtracks/sets/the-last-of-us <-- Last of Us soundtrack sampler. Amazing.

That boss theme was awesome. I really really really dug that game and music.

Also agreed, SCV hurt me deeply. I also didn't realize Kobayashi did the IV OST. Craziness.

Surprised no one has posted this yet

Mass Effect 3 - An End, Once and For All: Extended Cut - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLxv_g_zQkY
One of the most beautiful pieces of VGM I have ever heard in my life. No matter how much you hate anything regarding the ending of this game and the direction they took. You need to listen to this if you have not already.

Obviously be wary of spoilers in the comments if you're one of the few who haven't beaten this game yet.

This boss theme from Xenosaga 3. I remember hearing it on the website for the localized copy before the game was released and falling in love.

Final Fantasy Type-0 - Battle - Weapons of White,

I'm not into battle themes as much as I am for the more relaxing tunes on an OST (see my post below), but Weapons of White was up my style.

On that same vein

999 Binary Game - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_BLhvyZA2I

I'm a bigger fan of Quaternary and Unary.... but I oddly like the crazy beats, they helped agitate me to solve the puzzles on deck..  Yeah, weird reasoning.  I do like that one for being 1000x more chill though.

The FF7 Boss theme I forgot how good it was till you played it here.... I love when that weird synth instrument comes in, it's like something between a flute and a beep-sound (comes in at the 37 sec. mark).  I also fully endorse boss/battle music with organs in it.

This boss theme from Xenosaga 3. I remember hearing it on the website for the localized copy before the game was released and falling in love.

Oooh, I loved this one, had it as a cell phone ring tone till people said it was kinda intense (with that in mind, now it tells me when work is calling).  Really catchy, oddly paced.

Star Ocean 2 - Moderate
I was going through a bad time as school when I picked up SO2, so the idea of being whisked away to some exotic planet sounded just dandy.  But more than that, I loved how the game took you from a futuristic Earth to a really pretty, nature-filled planet; I think the town music in both Arlia and Mars (this song being from the latter) definitely give off that idea of being far from home, but still peaceful with that.

http://youtu.be/tYfHuImlFzk
Atelier Ayesha - Rain in the Dried Up Valley
Very earthy-sound.  There's a great buildup, a strong piano rhythm, and an exhiliterating crescendo at the 1minute mark.

http://youtu.be/iLkfmnK7t20
Dragon's Dogma - Character Creation
Can you ask for a more weird blend of genres?  Very interesting tune, back when the demo came out, I cleaned my room a bit and let the song play.

http://youtu.be/qS_3GEdXvPQ
Halo 4 - Blue and Green (KOAN remix)
More chill music, very, very nice.

Man, I love Xenosaga. That is probably my one of my favourite general fight random boss tracks in any game.

My choices:

The Calmest Streets of Rage The menu theme for the first Streets of Rage. Yuzo Koshiro's best work was on the Streets of Rage series. I particularly like the Slap Bass on this track.

X5 Boss Battle. There is something chaotic about this song that I find very addictive. I think it is one of the weaker songs in the game itself, but I find myself drawn to listen to it as music.

Best chase music? Best chase musc. Here I reveal a terrible secret. I only posted to comment on the XS3 Boss theme, but I felt like I was going to a potluck without bringing anything so I thought of Random VGM. Anyway, I know a lot of people dislike XS2's music and while a lot of it was bland I think the standout songs are great. With songs like this Yuko Kaijura really kicked ass, but I think Hosoe did a good job too. I loved hearing this song return as the theme to HaKox, when I figured that out it blew my mind.
