Evergrace - Buying Goods at Palmira

This song is an absolute MIRACLE. If this was somehow recorded live (I know, prolly not!), I would love to have seen that actually happen. I'm just imagining a bunch of musicians getting together, wildly flailing as they attempt to play something resembling music.

The whole Evergrace is retarded, strange, but completely unique and wonderful.

Songs just *don't* sound like this --- and it's not necessarily a bad thing.

Go figure that a game not released here with a well-known Japanese composer turns to be one of his better offerings

Motoi Sakuraba's* "Beyond the Labyrinth" is a lovely and unique soundtrack and quite different from a lot of his previous work.  And also again proves that his Tales work is more often than not his "less impressive" work compared to his work for other series'.

http://youtu.be/vNHl6mWSun8  Triangle Shines (calm)
http://youtu.be/LdVUxUNfkkA  Illusional Defence (battle[?])
http://youtu.be/bTJj8H4ks9Y Decayed Edge (tense -- almost sounds like Masashi Hamauzu)
http://youtu.be/_3zxsoZNFps Sad Wars (take the calm harp tunes Sakuraba loves doing and put it to an up-beat dungeon[?] theme).

*Bear in mind, I am a Sakuraba fan.

Also: I'm still playing through it with a friend, but holy fuck...David Wise is amazing and performed brilliantly for the "Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze" Soundtrack

Ooooh me oh my. I absolutely adore this entire soundtrack. I still consider his Tri-crescendo soundtracks, Star Ocean 3, and Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria to be that man's best work, but Beyond the Labyrinth gives me a nice welcome reaction of "Wait are you SURE this was Sakuraba" along with Dark Souls. However, that last track, "Sad Wars" is a track I don't recall hearing at ALL actually. I thought I'd already heard the whole thing, honestly. Odd.

EDIT:
Whoops, I realized I hadn't linked a song in that post! Have some Shigeki Hayashi!

It's like Sakuraba doesn't even try when it comes to Tales.

I've been going through the Bravely Default concert lately:

Main Theme~Field Medley
Battle Medley

I think it was established that the music budget isn't there for the Tales titles or that they want a really traditional RPG sound to the titles than the progressive rock or classical-esque music he composes otherwise.  But his work between the Tales series and other titles is seriously like night and day (like Tales gets him on board and he whips out an older keyboard).

I feel as if this didn't quite start becoming the case until after Vesperia, however. To be more specific, Abyss and Vesperia both used similar instrument sets to his better work (Tri Ace and Tri-crescendo) and had some fairly fantastic tunes. To this day, the BGM of Dahngrest in Vesperia is one of my favorite town themes in ANY rpg.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-_D8_M03H0 Tales of Vesperia: Oath of Unity

Graces had some interesting departures, but it seems like that's around when his Tales soundtracks started getting somewhat...boring. The seemingly downgraded instrument sets that started in Xillia haven't helped matters at all. For a good illustration of what I mean by this, listen to some tracks from "Tales of Series Battle Arrange 1," and then compare it to the miserable "Tales of Series Battle Arrange 2."

Revealed Truth HD

Damn, Tuesday can't possibly get here fast enough!

(Also, I agree with Arklight here, Vesperia and Abyss both had amazing soundtracks)

I totally feel no guilt in admitting I am going to troll this thread for possible music podcast tracks.

I'd feel kinda honoured....

Graces had some interesting departures...

I still think Grace's Irish-inspired River Dancing Battle Theme is one of the single greatest things I've ever heard from the series.

I also thought it was super cool when they let BUmp of Chicken's lead man write a few sings for Tales of the Abyss (and the result being....very videogame-y than rock-n-roll)

I've actually been hearing people complain about the "sameyness" of Tales Of soundtracks since Abyss. That was the second Tales games I played with him as the composer, and while I do enjoy most of the soundtrack, a few of those tunes did sound like Symphonia tracks with slight note changes here and there. ^_^; I noticed it even more with Vesperia, and I can't even remember what I've heard from Graces and Xillia because at this point, it's all just kind of blurring together music-wise.

My favorite tracks from Rain-Slick 4:

The Desert
The First Pillar
Battle!

And, because why the *** not?

My favorite non-remixed track from Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze:
Scorch 'N Torch

My favorite Mega Man X remix:
Brainsick Metal (Highway, Storm Eagle, and Spark Mandrill)

My favorite Persona 4: Arena remix:
Princess Amagi-ya (Traditional mix)

The craziest Chrono Trigger remix:
The Incredible Singing Robot

A Chrono Trigger mash-up that's kind of inappropriate:
The Corner / Schala's Theme (possibly NSFW due to drug references)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DucKGHz5qE Legend of Mana in celebration of the fact that amazing memoria will be out soon aieeeeeeeeeeee

That whole soundtrack:

http://youtu.be/EgJL-jJ0UB0  - Complicated Destiny
http://youtu.be/axHTOoP8gbw - Lumina (I love this song when it plays at night --- for obvious reasons)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=1HiQn06I9X0 - City of Flickering Destruction

And speaking of those earlier gifs.
Venus & Braves needs love
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwE2RGGupcU&list=PLm_elIkObrOp8MgiWuT3RElBMZ9SFAPTn&feature=share&index=14
Title Screen (how fucking lovely is that?)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5Bxak_yjT8&feature=share&list=PLm_elIkObrOp8MgiWuT3RElBMZ9SFAPTn&index=19
Waltz for Ariah (amazing build up and the game's main theme which 9 other songs are based on)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efOx94Bc4PQ&list=PLm_elIkObrOp8MgiWuT3RElBMZ9SFAPTn&feature=share&index=4
Paladin's Theme (which sounds sort of old school Uematsu..probably because of that oboe)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSFvShg14LU&feature=share&list=PLm_elIkObrOp8MgiWuT3RElBMZ9SFAPTn&index=11
Battle theme (I *LOVE* the very low baritone male choir that kicks in about 10 seconds in.  But also, I don't think you have a good battle theme unless you got a bell in there...1 minute mark makes me happy)

My favorite non-remixed track from Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze:
Scorch 'N Torch

My favorite Persona 4: Arena remix:
Princess Amagi-ya (Traditional mix)

The craziest Chrono Trigger remix:
The Incredible Singing Robot

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOwf-GdGEko&feature=share&list=PLCAKOz0OX3_PMfgFMdz3M_2r0dY7zth7x&index=34
Adding that to the "classic" Donkey Kong music but in Tropical Freeze.

I love the Robo song from Chrono Trigger.  It's hard to fuck his theme up, it's so melodically up-lifting (especially in contrast to the surroundings you get enlist him from).

Also I loved the Persona 4 Arena remix.  Lovely then cool.
