Very recently, I finished Virtue's Last Reward. As most of you guys who have played it know, Virtue's Last Reward is an absolutely FANTASTIC gem that should never be passed up. However, I've run into the same problem as I always do after finishing a really great game. I have no clue what to do next. I've tried getting back into a few games I set aside for VLR, but I'm just not...feeling it. What do you guys usually do after finishing a great game?

Or play something in a similar vein if I still want more.

For instance I suggest playing Ever 17 if you haven't already, as it is by the same writer as 999/VLR. It's all visual novel and no puzzles though.

Well, in my experience, beating VLR is not best followed with Fire Emblem, because VLR has awesome writing and (YES I KNOW YOU FUCKERS LIKE IT) Fire Emblem has shallow Saturday-morning cartoon writing that I hated. So I don't do that.

I did just beat P4G, and ended up trying to play something totally different so as not to make whatever came after seem lacking in comparison. Worked out well. Generally seems to be a good idea.

I haven't beaten anything since MegaMan Legends a few months ago.

I think I am the opposite. I usually try to play something slightly similar. Finishing a great turn based rpg would make me want to play a similar type whereas disliking a game would turn me away from similar type games for a while.

It is also nice to be able to look at threads about the game without worrying about spoilers.

Just started my shiny new digital copy of Etrian Odyssey 4, which I'd say is VERY different. Either I'll continue there or try Ever 17. Isn't Ever 17 the 2nd in a series though? Should I play the first before that?

It's a case of same world, different story (and I'm not even 100% sure about that). You don't need to have played the first, which is handy since it was never released.

It wasn't, eh? Well, if EO4 doesn't click, I'll give Ever17 a try. Thanks, man.

Write a review on my blog, then play another game. I got a never-ending backlog.

My reaction when I finish a game depends more on how much time I sank into it than how good it was. When I finished my Persona 4 for the first time after 120 hours, I don't think I touched another game for a week.

If it was bad I start another one.
If it was good, I play another one the next day.
If it was magnificent, I play another one after I digest it.
If it was GLOOOOOOORIOUS, I crawl into fetal position and try to forget the real world.

I actually get kinda blue when I know it's a unique title I won't really be able to play off.  Or blue because "damn, that's it? No more content?"

Yeah -- it's weird.
