RPGFan's Best of the Generation?
« on: June 20, 2013, 08:52:54 PM »
Are we going to have one?

I really love hearing the favorites of the various editors and writers each year, as well as the best overall games.

A big challenge, but we pulled off "best of the decade." I agree with Yeager - it's a good idea. We're wrapping up our E3 coverage and working on our hiring drive, but I can definitely see us doing something like this afterwards.

Only if the overall can be Dark Souls.
Friends, waffles, work. Or waffles, friends, work. Doesn't matter, but work is third.

The debate begins.

Speaking of which we have DSII early next year, so doing it before then is absolutely madness.

Can The Last of Us be included for the simple fact that it's astounding?

I am tempted to bring that up just for that fact alone.

I support this but suspect it will be shut down by the more level-headed members of the site.

Dark Souls?

Define generation? Console Generation?

That's the way we're going with it, Infy.  Partly since we did overall "best of the '00s" and "best of the '90s" features a few years ago, and partly because it's so difficult to put a time constraint on a console generation, since they don't all come out (or go away) at the same time.

Since the Xbox 360 and PS3 aren't quite finished with their runs yet, we're holding off on them.  But we're working on "best of PSP" and "best of DS" lists.

(Yeah, the Wii's done too, but look at the Wii reviews page and sort it by score.  I'm not sure there are really enough to put together a bigger list than "top 5" without including games that really aren't worthy.  Just my opinion, not the official site take on the matter.)

Well, there's ENOUGH I think for an acceptable top 5 on Wii, it's not like we're talking about N64 and Zelda's not being factored out (so off the top of my head... Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and perhaps Last Story), but it could be absorbed into a general top 10 for PS3/360/PC/Wii anyway, given the overlap between those first three and the paltry selection on the last.
