Dungeons and Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara
« on: June 22, 2013, 09:43:48 PM »
So I'm sad no one has mentioned this yet. It was released on xbl and psn this week passing, and consists of both arcade games released years ago, Tower of Doom and Shadows of Mystara. Local and online drop in/out multiplayer, full english text, and new features to be unlocked....it's the perfect pre-dragon's crown workout to get into the swing of side scrolling beat em ups. There's a demo for it up on both systems to give a try.

Ps3 for me though.

I beat it on Steam a couple of times with a buddy. I'll have a review up soon. It's fun!

You collect items, level up, and cast magic.

The name of the game is synonymous with role playing games.

I'm pretty sure we've been counting Dragon's Crown as an RPG and it's pretty much just a modern version of these games...

I have been thinking about getting this...I am just not sure, in my advanced age, if beat'em ups will still entertain me like they did back in the day. It looks awesome though

It's a good game. It's better with friends. You could do a lot worse with a beat-em-up. Also the translation is hilariously goofy.

level ups only really increase your hp but I would consider it an rpg. Plus the way the characters shout when they cast magic is hilarious.

Weird. I always thought this was a beat em up, in the style of stuff like Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.
I'm going to Japan for a few days in September, so I'll pick up the retail edition then.
I avoid online multiplayer because my brain still works.

This has been the only game I've played in the last 3 days. It was mostly due to lack of time, not the addictive-ness of the game, but it is totally great. For a beat-em-up it has a lot of content and I am constantly pleased with the little details. The animation is really good, it shows off all of the things Capcom learned on the CPS2 hardware. The fighting is fun and requires the perfect amount of skill, yes you can beat the game if you're not that good, but the combat is very rewarding especially with all of the point bonuses and treasures you can get if you play well. A fun little couch co-op experience.
I wouldn't really consider it an RPG, but y'know this site does what it wants and we get Dragon's Crown coverage, so I'm okay with that. Does anyone know what the Dwarf yells when he is knocked down? Is a D&D reference I don't get? All I hear is "ARC-SLOB!" or maybe "ART-SNOB!"
