Isn't the whole thing with the novel bullshit? I've never seen the novel translated and what it has been said of it is just sounds (to me) like a bunch of people overreacting because of some poor translation of a few pages.

Of course I could be wrong and the novel is as dumb as it has been mentioned. But still, I rather read the entire novel before freaking out.

The audio drama is sort of annoying to me since I don't particularly like the way Nojima writes his stories. It sucks that he's the script writer for XV... I'm crossing my fingers for him to do a good job since the idea behind the scenario in XV has potential in itself, but at this point I don't expect much of anything from him.

Most of the information is coming from the Japanese side of things. Like, book reviews and such.

Alright that's fine, but what sort of bothers me about this (aside from my lack of knowledge of Japanese in this case) is how this talk of the novel from what I've seen was generated from a few pages of a book that is not precisely small. There is more stuff I and others don't know about because of the language barrier going on here, right?

Just downloaded the remaster from PSN. I've never played the international version of FFX so this is almost like a whole new experience for me. So far everything is great and the remaster does not disappoint. Only issue (aside from not having a skip cutscene option) is that in most cutscenes the background music drowns out the dialogue. A lot of the time it's hard to make out what the characters are saying with the background music playing at the same time, so I have to keep the subtitles on.

That is nightmarish, really.

On an unrelated note, I noticed, in the first section with her and Tidus alone, Rikku's HD'd face looks incredibly masculine.  Is it just her early costume that gives that effect or does it look as masculine later?

Finally got ahold of an English copy today.
Very happy to play through this again as I think it's the last truly good FF.
(12 sucks!)
Never played X-2 before either.
As much as I detest Sony dropping bc to sell us our old games again, the hd versions really are handy for travelling when you can take two or three games on one disc.
I avoid online multiplayer because my brain still works.

^ Not really Sony do anything. Hell, there's a rumor Sony will be introducing disc-based PS1/PS2 emulation on the PS4 before the end of the year.
My Blog - It's about gaming stuff. You can read it if you want. No pressure. I mean, there's a link there you just have to click on, but... y'know... whatever.

Of course Sony did it. They got rid of bc to sell games on psn and hd editions.
And there is no way in hell sony will give us emulation when they can resell us games again and again.

Edit - back on topic:

If there was one song they SHOULD have changed, it was "Other World".

Every time I listen to that song, I think how great the production is - except for the tin can that is being substituted for a snare drum.

The snare sounds like tinny crap. It's weak and doesn't suit the song at all and it's bugged me for years.

The one thing they could have fixed and they didn't!

So far the only song I like better than the original is "Spira Unplugged". The guitar sounds more natural to me.

Blitzball is the sole redeeming factor of FFX for me, you're crazy!

Blitzball is the equivalent of having gas soaked shards of glass shoved up your anus then lit on fire.

What pisses me off is you simply cannot win. The game sets you up to fail.

This is my sixth time playing through FFX. I've already played the blitzball game four times today. It is physically impossible to win.

I cannot keep control of the ball. I never steal from the opposing team in tackles yet they always steal from me. 100% of the time.

I even went through the tutorial again today to see if I was doing anything wrong.

Nope. The game just fucks you over.

Someone once described "Otherworld" as a metal song produced by a punk.  That song needed cleaner production and a better vocalist.  Imagine if Burton C. Bell of Fear Factory had done it.  The growls would be more ballsy and the cleans would be more resonant.
Games I've given Editor's Choice to:
Ever 17, Hourglass of Summer, Anachronox, Persona PSP, Radiant Historia, To The Moon, Revolution 60

I actually don't mind the vocals. They suit the song just fine, overall.

The drums just sound really wimpy compared to the rest of the song and it's jarring.

It's a song meant for super manly drunken men like Jetch.
