You thought Atreyu was a girl? Or are you talking about Bastian?

When I first saw Neverending Story as a kid, I thought Chidllike Empress was the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen.

Atreyu is kinda girly.

So... was neverending story 2 pretty much a giant letdown to everyone else?

Neverending Story 2 was godawful.  I heard there was a third one as well, and I'm sure it was bad.

Say, has anyone else here read the NeverEnding Story novel by Michael Ende?  It's really good.  The movie only covers the first half of the book and the second half is pretty intense.

Considering it has 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, I think it's safe to say people think it is pretty bad. :P

There were elements I liked (mostly from the book), such as the witch who tempted Bastian to make frivolous wishes in exchange for his memories.

The third film doesn't even have that going for it. :P

Atreyu.

To be fair though, I was six at the time and bad at recognizing facial features (the name didn't help either; Atreyu sounds like such a girl's name).

As for the third movie; the best way to describe it would be to imagine a highschool movie with the occasional bad special effecting at the end. Like almost none of the characters from the first two movies even bothered to show up.

Then again, even the second movie was weak (at least I figured out that Atreyu was a dude in that one), but at least it had SOME high fantasy adventure elements to it compared to 3.
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

I can't recall much of the 2nd film, which probably does explain how unmemorable it is.. I didn't even know there was a 3rd film. Was it direct to video, or something?

@ natros...

Just keep sporting that Al Bundy avatar and you can have any opinion you want... that avatar makes me happy :)

Glad to be of service, my good man!

I am guilty of this as well. The first few times I saw the film (around the same age as Aeolus), I totally thought Atreyu was a female. Ah well..

The 3rd Neverending Story is awesome because it has young Jack Black leading a gang of teenage thugs called the Nasties. The rest of it (including his parts) not so awesome.

Now that I think about it, the third movie is actually the fourth movie since I recall there being an animated movie somewhere in between (or at least I recall there being a TV spot for it).
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

Wasn't there briefly a Neverending Story cartoon series?  I don't remember seeing it on TV but something tells me it existed.  I like to think I'm pretty good at remembering 1980s cartoons.

*In best Homer Simpson voice* "Woohoo!"

And to circle back to the topic at hand, there was also this indie graphic adventure by WadJetEye who reimagined Oz through a film noir lens.  I haven't played it myself, but WadJetEye's stuff is generally good.  http://www.wadjeteyegames.com/emerald-city-confidential.html
