I interviewed Martin Walkyier of Sabbat/Skyclad/The Clan Destined not too long ago when I used to write for a webzine. Reviewed the TCD E.P. too, which is excellent. here's a link to the interview if you're interested:

"The Wonders at your Feet" by Dark Tranquility is my song of the moment.  Lyrics were cribbed from metal-archives.com.  Tonight was the sendoff for one of my friends/colleagues/classmates who will be doing his PhD and post-doc in aesthetics research at the University of Vienna in Austria.  He recently married over the summer to a lovely Swedish lady who I got to meet for the first time at the shindig.

She was talking about how some people even asked her "where in America is Sweden?" when she'd say where she was from.  I then said that most metal heads would be savvy about Sweden because of the Gothenburg metal scene.  She found that very amusing, despite not really knowing anything about the Gothenburg metal scene.

deeper shades of red descending
smear our names, the stains unending
turn forgiveness,
break the lens distorted
crush the infidel and turn about
famine in our hearts, bring up the silence louder
eradicate the lungs and take us higher

these are the wonders at your feet

weighed upon a wider scale
afraid to see what takes us down
sing destruction, sing of unfullfillment
search abandoned, let the blood be fevered
ridden of the self provided things get easier
ignite our minds and let´s burn brighter

these are the wonders at your feet

Weezer - Pink Triangle

When I'm stable long enough
I start to look around for love
See a sweet in floral prints
My mind begins the arrangements
But when I start to feel that pull
Turns out I just pulled myself
She would never go with me
Were I the last girl on earth

I'm dumb, she's a lesbian
I thought I had found the one
We were good as married in my mind
But married in my mind's no good
Pink triangle on her sleeve
Let me know the truth
Let me know the truth

Might have smoked a few in my time
But never thought it was a crime
Knew the day would surely come
When I'd chill and settle down
When I think I've found a good old-fashioned girl
Then she put me in my place
If everyone's a little queer
Can't she be a little straight?

I'm dumb, she's a lesbian
I thought I had found the one
We were good as married in my mind
But married in my mind's no good
Pink triangle on her sleeve
Let me know the truth
Let me know the truth
Let me know the truth

I'm dumb, she's a lesbian
I thought I had found the one
We were good as married in my mind
But married in my mind's no good
Pink triangle on her sleeve
Let me know the truth
Let me know the truth

I'm dumb, she's a lesbian
I thought I had found the one
We were good as married in my mind
But married in my mind's no good
Pink triangle on her sleeve
Let me know the truth
Let me know the truth
Let me know the truth
Let me know the truth

Pinkerton was their best album. No contest. Brilliant songwriting on all of the songs, even if the lyrics are a bit silly sometimes.

Blue and Pinkerton were easily Weezer's best albums.  I loved Blue because it had the depth of Pinkerton with the lighthearted pop sensibilities of their later stuff.  Blue, IMO, was the perfect blend of everything.

But my song of the moment is "Taint the Sky" by Seventh Wonder, a really freaking good Swedish prog metal band.

http://www.seventhwonder.nu/media_audio.asp (download the song from their site here)  It's really good.

Lyrics (as taken from their site):

A northern corner,
the stage is set and each must play his part
Accusing children: "-I have seen her fly!"
the life-depriving lies

I'm sorry you must believe me!
-but we have seen you heal in evil ways.
Deceiver!

         Witches will burn
-even if she dies for a crime unknown
         Taint the sky, ashes falling
And even if your heart is saying "No!"
-Your mind is so twisted. Can you really let her go?
         Soon the heavens will burn!

A stronger magic;
to allow this jest, reason is subdued
Accused and lying -oh sure she will cry!
Confession tears they are!

I'm sorry, my life is over
-and we will make the demons go away.
Forever!

         Witches will burn
-even if she dies for a crime unknown
         Taint the sky, ashes falling
And even if your heart is saying "No!"
-Your mind is so twisted. Can you really let her go?
         Soon the heavens will burn!

A kingdom is burning,
and will I ever know just why?
I see them burning oh I see
It burns in me
–they’re burning us all!

         Witches will burn
-even if she dies for a crime unknown
         Taint the sky, ashes falling
And even if your heart is saying "No!"
-Your mind is so twisted. Can you really let her go?
         Soon the heavens will burn!

I just checked out their myspace and really liked what I heard. I'll have to check them out even more soon.
