Joanna Newsom - Emily
I am in love with this album.
Emily - I saw you last night by the river
I dreamed you were skipping little stones across the surface of the water
frowning at the angle where they were lost, and slipped under forever,
in a mud-cloud, mica-spangled, like the sky'd been breathing on a mirror
anyhow - I sat by your side, by the water
you taught me the names of the stars overhead that I wrote down in my ledger
tho all I knew of the rote universe were those pleiades loosed in december
I promised you I‘d set them to verse so I'd always remember
that the meteorite is a source of the light
and the meteor's just what we see
and the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee
and the meteorite's just what causes the light
and the meteor's how it's perceived
and the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee
One of my favorite moments on the album. Such beautiful lyrics.

Robert Pollard - Dancing Girls and Dancing Men.
I don't care what people say. From a Compound Eye totally has some of Pollard's best melodies *ever*.

Not necessarily a song, but a music bit I can't get enough of. One thing I like about Rotosound's website is that they give sound samples of their strings. The one I'm digging the most is the 66s soundbyte (fun to listen to and fun to play.) The 99s soundbyte is cool too, but a bit too twangy. The 66s is a great rock blend of hefty lows and biting highs.

I'll be trying Rotosound RS66 nickels on my bass for the first time in January. I've never used Rotosounds before, but they are one of those "brands you gotta try" when it comes to bass strings.
I wish more string websites posted soundbytes of their strings.

OMG non metal!!
I've been back on a Brit-pop rock/shoegaze/dream pop kick.
I'm really digging the groups The High Violets and Motel Creeps

Song of the moment is "Love is Blinding" by The High Violets. Fantastic song.
Here's some YouTube live footage from a Motel Creeps show. Great song, and I like how the guitar player's really finessed and kinda hanging back while the bassist has a more active stage presence.

My song of the moment is "Through Osiris' Eyes" by Pagan's Mind for no other reason than it's a totally awesome song that totally soars and is very dynamic, but smoothly so. Excellent prog metal. I gotta get the Celestial Entrance album.
Definitely give that song a listen. I've been on a Pagan's Mind and Seventh Wonder kick of late. Two excellent prog-metal bands.
The reign of a complex mind
They arrived again
A curse on this vast promised land
Have foreseen the time
[Bridge:]
My pace is slowly dying
Foreseen, the priestess crying
A curse, arriving
Fiend mind, infernal quest
Onward! (Osiris)
[Chorus:]
Eyes of Heaven's reign
Rise of the pageant
Sense the mortal truth
Reach eternal life, through Osiris' eyes
Immortal empire of this land
Deceived by own men's hands
Gods of supremacy race
Claimed the throne again
[Bridge:]
My pace is slowly dying
Foreseen, the priestess crying
A curse, come forth! [x2]
Arriving, onward!
[Chorus:]
Eyes of Heaven's reign
Rise of the pageant
Sense the mortal truth
Reach eternal life, through Osiris' eyes
"The curse has been lifted!"
Empowered through thousands of years
The gods of high sphere
Constructed by allegiances of far
carved their name in stone
[Bridge:]
My pace is slowly dying
Foreseen, the priestess crying
A curse, arriving
Fiend mind, infernal quest
Onward! (Osiris)
[Chorus:]
Eyes of Heaven's reign
Rise of the pageant
Sense the mortal truth
Reach eternal life, through Osiris' eyes
