'Child Of Light' is 2D side-scrolling w/JRPG turn-based battles using UbiArt Framework (Rayman Origins) to make "a living painting". -- @simoncarless (Twitter)

I saw a bit about it this morning. If it is indeed a mix of Limbo and FF I'm up for it.
It is weird (for me) to see Ubisoft developing something like, I gotta say I appreciate them trying something this different from what they usually make.

Yeah, Ubisoft is awesome because every once in a while they do something really unique and quirky, which is why I don't mind that they release a new Assassin's Creed every year. They made Outland too, for example, which was that strange Ikaruga inspired Metroidvania platformer.

Color me interested as well.

It's interesting how the 2D sidescrolling RPG is flavor of the month these days.  Dragon's Crown, this, Battle Princess of Arcadias.  Yeah, Child of Light appeals to me the most out of those.

I'm also down for this. Nice to see major devs take a chance and do something different.

These are the types of projects that perk my ears up nowadays. Looks very interesting. Gotta love their inspirations.

I think that's exactly why they release a new Assassin's Creed every year.  That's probably how they make enough bank to do some experimental titles that taking a potential hit/loss on won't affect them too much, because the company can still remain financially afloat through Assassin's Creed.

One of my most memorable Ubi-Soft games is easily Beyond Good and Evil.  A fantastic game that, sadly, did not make enough bank.  It left itself open for a sequel that, sadly, still hasn't came to pass and probably won't since the original's already 10 years old and probably a "forgotten classic." And I loved Ubi's localization of Grandia 2.

It's kinda cool looking at history, how Ubi-Soft was a dark horse company that's become pretty badass now.

Aside from UPlay, generally I've had a pretty good opinion of Ubi. Beyond Good and Evil, Rayman, and Outland are all great (my PSN avatar has been the hero from Outland because MAN is that a cool avatar), and I've also enjoyed all three Far Cry games. Between Child of Light and Might and Magic X being an actual turn-based grid RPG, I have to say that they aren't hurting my feelings one bit. Good on them.

And good call, Neal-- I think you're exactly right.

Child of Light [US] Beware of the Night Trailer -- ubisoft, YouTube

from NeoGAF:

"You can interrupt enemy attacks by timing."
"You can play co-op with a 2nd player controlling the flame fairy dude."
"There are no random encounters. You see every enemy within the environment and, upon touching them, you are thrust into battle."
