For the love of Pete what happened to industrial design?

I think the top image is a mock-up but is probably pretty close to what the guy was playing.

Nintendo sure is dancing around dual analogs like some sort of death waltz

I think they're trying to target younger gamers with this thing. It'll be an easier sell for parents if their kids want a handheld. I think Nintendo should have been putting their time into a redesign of the 3DS, but they must be really suffering from losses on the Wii-U, so they designed this?

It looks more like a slice of bread than a cake.

Looking at it that way, the design makes so much sense. I've seen way to many kids snap their (3)DS in two, because being careful with a $170 toy is apparently too much to ask.

BTW I'd say cheese.

Well the 2DS aesthetically certainly looks like a toy. But then again, I'm one of those that doesn't like to call any official device that is for gaming a toy. Specially after the DS and PSP that were designed to a point to be multimedia devices (more the PSP then the DS of course), and that's hardly a toy if you ask me.

^ And yet parents would think so, considering how many toddlers I see with iPads and iPhones.

I bought my PS3 from a parent who mainly used it to let his kids watch cartoons on dvd...

I wouldn't call gaming systems toys either, but many parents (and their children) treat them as such. Oh well, it's their money, I guess...

Let's not forget that this is coming out when Pokemon X and Y comes out. The target audience is definitely children. Kids will want to play Pokemon, their parents will buy them a 2DS to play it. At least, that's what Nintendo is hoping will happen with this.

Yeah no doubt Nintendo will sell billions of these, but I don't like it :)

In a related note, price drop for the Wii-U bundle including Windwaker.

I dig it.  It's budget, better[?] for kids, and has the same capabilities for a lower price.  The 3D on the system can be a pain in the ass.  Not too big an issue, if you don't want it, don't buy it.

Business-wise, I think it's a clever idea.

I think Yoda's out of the loop as to why it's fun to "love" Reggie.

It's the only gaming console you can play and then wedge under a door to keep it open or under a table to keep it from wobbling
