Phantasy Star Nova (developed by Tri-Ace)
« on: September 09, 2013, 02:38:56 AM »
Sega just announced a new Phantasy Star developed by Tri-Ace during the Sony conference.

They said you could either choose to play online or solo and it would be story focused.

If I understood correctly, it's for the Vita.
I avoid online multiplayer because my brain still works.

Wait... what?

Another in the PSO/PSU series with offline play..... or... Phantasy Star V? O_O!

Sega announced Phantasy Star Nova which takes place in the same world as Phantasy Star Online 2. It will be an offline game and sold in stores unlike PSO2. Players can connect together through ad-hoc play. The biggest surprise is tri-Ace is the developer of Phantasy Star Nova. Sega also showed a giant monster called Gigantes, which players will fight.

Phantasy Star Nova is slated for release in 2014

Tri-Ace... Phantasy Star. Sounds like a great combo. Hey, Tri-Ace actually ports some game to English in NA, too. Maybe there will be a game in the PSO2 world released in NA before PSO4 is released after all.

I always thought Tri-Aces wanted to make a Phantasy Star game. Glad they finally get the chance. I'm definitely excited to see where this goes.

I'm excited I guess.  Seems like the next best thing as far as Star Ocean could reach.

I do get worried.  80% of the time, when a game sports on/offline modes a game is either more of one than the other.

I bet they can't wait to have the player crash on a underdeveloped planet and remove all sci-fi in the first 10 minutes.

And clothing destruction.

Also looks like they are totally striping you of a good chunk of your tech after your crash land on a primitive planet. :v I'm surprised they haven't mentioned any sort of Prime Directive that'll get brought up all of once and then promptly ignored/violated yet.
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

  • Alter’s Delta Variant warship (1,000 crew members) crash-lands on “Planet Machia”
  • Planet Machia is an uncivilized planet where photons have no effect

FUUUUUUUUU-

Quote
  • Provided photons have no effect on the planet, “Photon Arts” cannot be used
  • Technics also cannot be used
  • “Something” will replace photons; details will be provided in a follow-up report

Well at least they're making an excuse inserting Star Ocean's magic system...

Quote
  • Planet Machia is home to the super giant “Gigantes” enemies
  • Weapons cannot be obtained through item drops
  • By procuring “raw materials” on Planet Machia, the player can create weapons

Great, just what this game needed, Monster Hunter elements. -_-

...sorry, but I'm getting really worried about this game now...

You mean you weren't really worried about this the moment you heard that Tri-Ace was involved?

Why? A single player focused PS game, finally.... and it just sounds worrisome more than exciting.

It's Phantasy Star, you don't need to have a planet where existing skill sets won't work. There's nothing wrong with having an alien priest, a guy with a sword, an android with giant cannons, a genetically engineered girl with cat ears, and a wizard all working together.

"But we need to create a realistic world. Why would someone fight with swords when such amazing magic and cyborg-cannons exist?"

Fuck you guys. Some people suplex trains.

Will I buy it? Almost certainly. Will I gripe about it? I have since PSO came out, I'm not going to stop now. Give me back my Algol solar system, damn you.

At least you'll be able to play as classic Phantasy Star characters.

Once you clear at least 50 floors in the bonus dungeon

Grand Cross!

I have the soundtracks for all the old PS games... think my favorite song is Generations of Fate, even though PSIII was my least favorite of the main series.

You also need to beat the Iseria Queen five times. And each time she gets harder. Also you need to beat the final boss with the Limiter Off.
