We listed the three games on the page as inspiration for the following reasons.

Phantasy Star - General Setting & Feel
Chrono Trigger - Graphic format, No Separate Battle Screen, Multi-Character Combo Techniques, Fast Pacing
Suikoden - Base Building, Political Intrigue

Any other games I may have mentioned on twitter are probably just personal favorites (like Lunar).

Anyway, we're not trying to make yet another retro game. With this game, we're really trying to make a game that feels like a high quality professional RPG and not just a "Good for indie" RPG. We're specifically focused on improving on the weaknesses of previous games of ours like the lack of variety & the poor UI. And as usual, we're going to be trying out a few new things (like variable MP ailment abilities & various ways to speed up turn-based combat).

Well, like I said, my intention is not to poo poo on your project, and I appreciate you dropping by to weigh in-- like I said, I appreciate your openness when developing, and I especially appreciate you clarifying regarding the classic games mentioned. As I mentioned, I do hope you guys see success, because I love sci-fi.

It sounds like you have the right idea, and while I admit I haven't been a fan of you all's past games, as I mentioned, I'm certainly hoping this is the one that brings me over. Having backed the project for the soundtrack, I'll find out one way or the other ;) haha.

I'm interested, mainly because of the Phantasy Star feel (I cut my RPG teeth on Phantasy Star 1-4) and the turn-based combat; I prefer that to action-RPG combat, so with the lack of turn-based RPGs nowadays, that piques my interest.  That's why I enjoyed Septerra Core in the first place.  If Cosmic Star Heroine is like Septerra Core, but with faster combat and less obtuse dungeons, I'll be a happy Dincrest.  And, yes, the Hyperduck soundtrack is cool.

The one thing I've always wanted out of a Sci-Fi RPG was to have a Suikoden headquarters style starship that you could upgrade and maintain like the Enterprise or the Millennium Falcon. Infinite Space was all very well and good, but it just didn't have the kind of base star that I was looking for.

Also congrats on making it over half way to your goal.

Well, I've always liked the Zeboyd games because they take a few simple RPG mechanics, give them a small twist, and then are over before they wear out their welcome.  $3 to $5 for a 5-10 hour RPG with amusing dialog and an interesting twist on turn-based combat?  Sure.  Messrs. Boyd and Stiernberg are more ambitious than ever for this upcoming title and I couldn't be more excited for it.  I've only given to (*does a quick count*) six KickStarters before, but this is the only one where I've considered giving over $80 for.  Might go halfsies with a friend and co-design a monster.

Congrats on making the goal. Now the wait for Suikoden Star: Chrono Runner can truly begin.
