So, trying to find some good non-FF, non-Black Mage works by him... wondering what the best ones are? I loved Last Story's music.

Not sure if you count it as "FF" -- but Final Fantasy Legend, which is truly the first game in the SaGa series ... excellent Game Boy soundtrack.

Also good is his 50/50 split work with Mitsuda on the SNES game Front Mission: Gun Hazard.

Thanks! I noticed he worked on some animes and such... any of those good?
Anything more recent? I seem to like his later works more.

Lost Odyssey was actually quite good as well.  Those dramatic story telling pieces were great

Well, that "Guin Saga" anime had pretty good music, yes. But he's doing less composition these days and has taken on more of a supervisory role. There are whole soundtracks being credited to "The Earthbound Papas" now (I think the next Unchained Blades game EXXIV, as well as some Neptunia titles...). But in fact it's mostly Tsutomu Narita doing most of the music-writing, Uematsu just establishing some main themes. Uematsu also did this with a guy named Kevin Penkin on some Idea Factory visual novels (which reminds me, did NORN9 come out yet...?)

Yes, yes it did. I've been meaning to listen to this.

How does The Last Story OST compare to Lost Odyssey?  Honestly I think LO might be favorite work of his.
