I wouldn't go that far. When it comes to RPGs, Yuji Horii is even more influential than Sakaguchi. You also have people like Matsuno who envisioned the modern SRPG. Then you have western developers like Sir-Tech created a modern genre more that 5 years before Sakaguchi and Horii made their breakout games, with the first-person dungeon crawler Wizardry. Japan loves the genre even more than the west, now.
