I think the portraits and even the BG textures look fine.... just the sprites themselves look so incredibly...kitsch.

You know what? Thinking about it, this remake sucks.
It lowers the bar to what a proper remake should be.

When I think of good remakes, I think of Tales of Destiny.

With just PSX -> PS2, the game looks, sounds, plays and controls leagues better.
Square is going from SNES -> Mobile, which is a much bigger jump, yet the game doesn't even feel that much better.

Wow, I had not seen the towns before.  Yuck...it's so inconsistent.  Just pick and art style and stick with it already...

I was considering getting it, just because I'd really like to own a copy. BUT, that last image Annubis posted? There is no way I am buying it after seeing that piece of crap.

This could be a plot to attract a new audience. If you all haven't noticed, the style and design looks very similar to other cell phone games that have some modest popularity. SE's fans aren't likely to stop buying shit they make,but this could attract new ones.
