Sometimes I feel like the only one thinking, "Hey, uh... I know it's not a monopoly, but maybe we should stop Google from getting a foot in EVERY door?"

Google will clearly have the monopoly on media streaming with this.

It can't be a monopoly when there are pleny of other options.

The problem here is that the other options currently suck...

It's a monopoly if you control over 50% of the market.

I can't find anywhere that says that. The dictionary says that it's "The exclusive control of a commodity or service", though I do know that different governments define it differently. I've tried reading the US anti-trust laws before and even the Quick notes were confusing as hell...

So...source plz?

No.  That's just wrong.

It's right according to Canada media laws (and 50% is overly generous - it's either 45% or 35%)

(*sniff sniff* I know nobody cares about ours laws ;_;)

Just checked the Canadian laws and it seems you are right.....no one cares about Canadian laws, not even you. :p Based on what I found, Canadian law does not define monopoly (definition was deleted in 1985) since Canadian law apparently don't care if you are a monopoly, only whether you abuse a dominant position (which you can have even if you aren't a monopoly, and you can be a monopoly and not abuse your position). Source 1, Source 2

....Wait how'd we get on this topic?

It just occurred to me that American monopoly boards probably don't use London streets as the properties.

That's because nobody else wanted to play Monopoly because it is a horrible game that was designed as a teaching tool about how land ownership/rent is horrible and how we need to switch over to a flat fee for land (that part has sort of been cut). I'll never understand how that game became so freaking popular. >.>

Probably because, outside of Risk and short of Othello and Stratego, its one of the few boardgames that Parker Bros.(too lazy; didn't verify) released that people over the age of 12 could play without getting so board that they'd run to their local comic book shop/book store and drop $50 on Settlers of Catan or something more intellectually stimulating.

Monopoly really isn't a bad game if you actually play it correctly.  I swear, 99% of people add all these shitty "house rules" that totally break the game balance and make it so that the game never ends.  If you play it by the rules in the rulebook (and nothing else) a game of Monopoly should only take like an hour, tops.

I still wouldn't say it's a great game but that's because it's very luck-based.  Half the game is just where you happen to land on the first trip around the board.

Gust being absorbed into Koei Tecmo

Of course Koei Tecmo has owned Gust since 2011, but they nevertheless operated as a largely independent subsidiary.  It sounds like after this Gust as we know it will cease to exist and Gust's staff will be merged into the rest of Koei Tecmo.  There will still be a Gust brand, but it remains to be seen exactly what they're going to do with it.
