I am sure with all our RPG gaming, we stumbled upon a cliche or two. This is a list of all the known (or so I think) RPG cliches and I find it veyr interesting. Some I knew about, some I never realized and some are just plain funny.
Go share your thoughts, concerns beefs etc.... about any of the cliches mentioned. I am sure we all got a thing or two to say about them.

An oldie but goodie. About all I can say really, though some cliches only apply to a handful of games.

Fucking excellent, I was gonna try to find a much shorter version of this list in an old PSM I have. Thanks for helping me avoid that issue. :P

Ah yes, The Grand List Of Console Role Playing Game Clichés. Good times. Most games have at least several of those items.

hee this gave me a good read and ive definatly seen a lot of it time and again. If I were to add one thing it would be:
Ninth law of travel:
You will more than likly accumulate 3 vehicles in your journey to save the world - a boat, a land hover and a flying vehicle. Sadly you will always get them in this not so convienient order.
Kudos to the team who wrote it!

I read that list a long while back, and although it is partialy true, it does not hold true for most games.
To be a true cliche, it must be an idea that has lost its original effectiveness or power from overuse in many games before hand. Although some of these have been used several times before, the majority I have read only count for a diminutive number of RPGs. As for the ones that are overused, they really never get old (Gandia III, anyone?).
But still, funny.

Kingdoms are good, Empires are evil.

Anyway, it's a dread that nobody knows the name for, like those little square plastic gizmos that close your bread bags. I don't know the name for those either."

It was funny. But, it seems like he's just taking annoying things from RPGs (half from FFVII it seems) and calling them cliches. Granted, I have not played nearly as many RPGs as some of you guys.

Heh some people should simply stop playing RPGs – or games ;)
Even though a lot of games use brainless clichés, developers can’t keep away from all of them.
