In the 90s, I listened to a lot of punk bands and played drums for a punk band in high school for a short stint. After high school, I expanded my listening appreciation to various styles of metal. I liked European metal bands predominately... specifically; power, prog, and Gothenburg metal. I'm still a big metal fan today, although I haven't been to a concert in a while.
Anyway, onto topic at hand: Babymetal.
Last night my wife was blaring a video on YouTube via her iPad. My ears were perplexed. If there could be such a thing. On one hand (or ear, pun intended)... I heard death metal and on another I heard j-pop. I was confused as to what I was listening to, so I got off the floor from playing "Bravely Default" to watch this video clip.
My eyes were just confused as my ears were. After the video was over I asked my wife what they were saying and she said the article she was reading on USAToday said they were singing about how the three female pop singers love chocolate. Chocolate? Really? Never would have guessed it, but then again I can't understand Japanese.
This post was a little long winded, but you have to see video to make up your own opinion of this new genre, "j-pop death metal."
