Hello, Fans!  As many of you have probably noticed, RPGFan is launching a Twitch stream channel found here:  http://www.twitch.tv/rpgfancom

We're still working the kinks out and getting acclimated to the accompanying software, so thank you for your patience.  As always, we're interested in your feedback on the channel.  We also would like to know what games you're interested in us streaming.  We'll have a more official post on the front page about this later, but for the time being, feel free to follow us, tell your friends, and enjoy the stream!

So what is this whole twitch thing? You watch other people play video games? That has the potential to be either colossally boring, or...I don't know what. I suppose depending upon the game it could be entertaining. Or if you can get a whole bunch of people streaming together. Still not something I would do. Time is already at a premium.

«Tell her that its the middle of winter and a sweater would be more appropriate»

Okay this sounds like a better idea already.

Twitch is great under two conditions:

1. The person streaming is mildly entertaining.
2. It's a game without a plot.

So many people livestream plot-heavy games on Twitch the day it comes out as a sort of alternative to reviews, and I just don't get it. Why would you want to watch the entire beginning of a plot-heavy game you're considering getting.

Now you get it, and the beginning is that much more boring, and it could put a sour note on the rest of the game. That's the way I see it, anyway.

If the chat is active, it's more of like having a good discussion with something on in the background.

It's best used for games that aren't released yet (Japanese player "Leta" is big because he plays and beats a lot of Japanese games through the course of several very long sessions, so it's like an extended gameplay preview).

Or for challenges.  The Twitch Plays Pokemon is huuuuge right now, but I watched one of 4 players "racing" to beat Ocarina of Time which was kinda cool (as a background distraction).

That said, I prefer Youtube now for the LoL tournaments.
I find that Twitch has lag issues on huge events.
Youtube on the other hand runs like butter.

Youtube is practically necessary in Europe. Twtich does not give a fuck.

We're trying to get podcast people streaming. I myself have streamed FFXIV endgame content and the PS4 beta, and we want to get Rob to do Dark Souls II (mostly so I can harass him every time he dies, but I digress).

I find it's an interesting way to interact with people and have enjoyable discussions, especially if the game in question is something people have specific queries about. There are about 120 people watching the FFXIV beta stream I ran, and I got to answer a lot of questions and show off a little of the PS4 version's features.

I really enjoyed the stream the other night (logged in as Rhythmroo)! I was hoping there was going to be more folks in the chat, but perhaps next time there will be a a site announcement the next time you do it (You did an unboxing announcement for Tales but not a twitch one for the game you unbox? for shame!). Don't forget you also have a newsbox on the forum. :)

Until then: Até logo!

argh, missed the FFXIV stream, wanted to see someone who knew what they were doing play it. Ended up shovelling snow off my drive way and passed out on the couch afterwards.

Bah!
