In the 90s, I listened to a lot of punk bands and played drums for a punk band in high school for a short stint. After high school, I expanded my listening appreciation to various styles of metal. I liked European metal bands predominately... specifically; power, prog, and Gothenburg metal. I'm still a big metal fan today, although I haven't been to a concert in a while.

Anyway, onto topic at hand: Babymetal.

Last night my wife was blaring a video on YouTube via her iPad. My ears were perplexed. If there could be such a thing. On one hand (or ear, pun intended)... I heard death metal and on another I heard j-pop. I was confused as to what I was listening to, so I got off the floor from playing "Bravely Default" to watch this video clip.

My eyes were just confused as my ears were. After the video was over I asked my wife what they were saying and she said the article she was reading on USAToday said they were singing about how the three female pop singers love chocolate. Chocolate? Really? Never would have guessed it, but then again I can't understand Japanese.

This post was a little long winded, but you have to see video to make up your own opinion of this new genre, "j-pop death metal."

USAToday article:

YouTube video that went viral, "BABYMETAL - ギミチョコ!!- Gimme chocolate!! - Live Music Vid"

"Babymetal calls its music Kawaii Metal."

Honestly I don't know what to say about this. A part of me likes it for how ridiculous the concept is, but it kind of is a bit too much to take at first.

Either way I'm interesed in seeing how far this can go. :T

This is probably the strangest "reconciliation" of two genres that have otherwise been at odds with each other

I wanna tour Japan and open for these guys.  And Blood Stain Child.  I love BSC's Epsilon album.  It's a beautiful blend of trance, melodic death metal, and J-Pop.  Here's the teaser:  Oh and don't be confused by Ryu in Epsilon's liner art.  He's really a dude.

DOUBLE. Am I wrong to add that they belong at Heavy MTL this year more than say,  Three Days Grace?
