It looks like an SRPG, except that player and enemy turns happen simultaneously.  So it's like "active time SRPG."

Doesn't really look like an SRPG to me. Looks more like a rogue-like. "Tactical Action RPG" sounds like a nicer definition. Sounds like a mix of turn-based gameplay and Action RPG's.Which I would definitely love.

The Kickstarter page is a bit confusing though. It's not SNES styled, nor (in the trailer) is it 2D. Odd.

I haven't seen a mention of SNES or 2D. Do you have a quote? I'll be keeping an eye on this game.

Thanks. Still wouldn't call it an SRPG, though.

From the kickstarter page (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/grimmbros/dragon-fin-soup): "A charming SNES style RPG with Roguelike elements, set in a twisted fairytale world with a cheerful, yet raging alcoholic Heroine". Still have no idea where the SNES part comes in. Most of those elements pre-date SNES (roguelike) or were made after the SNES (Action RPG, hotkey skills etc).

And I misread from the trailer (0:53) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkNiRbPgb-w "Rich classical 2D WORLD beautifully rendered in HD". They meant perspective, probably. Luckily I couldn't find that in their other trailers, so my nitpick is now redacted. Odd choice of words in a game with polygons, though.

Wow. You were right. Though I must admit, it doesn't remind me of the SNES at all. Game Boy Advance at the earliest. Still pretty though!

Heart Forth, Alicia is live.

A metroidvania type game that has apparently been in development for the last 6-7 years?

I am very interested.

Everything seems really well done, the music got me to back it.
Mostly lurks, with good reason
Obviously, I'm a genius...The Darkrider said so
Me: So, Mom, where are you going in the U.K.?
Mom: Ware
Me: Yeah, where?
Mom: No, Ware.... W-A-R-E

From their video:
"We realized there's really been nothing new in the RPG market for the past, I'd say decade or so"

How am I even supposed to take these guys seriously when they kick off with a ridiculous statement like that?

It is a valid point. Do they have any proof?

Treachery in Beatdown City https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nuchallenger/treachery-in-beatdown-city-a-tactical-beat-em-up-0

It's like Final Fight with VATS (fallout3), and that's actually a good idea.  The designer described how he has never been good at Tekken because it was too hard to execute long button combos, and this removes execution difficulty from the equation, allowing you to think about which moves you want to do tactically.

In contrast to that (incredible) Brony game video's sentiment, Beatdown City's devs put a lot of heart into respectfully representing the main characters' cultural backgrounds.

I mostly pop in occasionally to give my two cents on certain controversial things, so if you disagree then send a PM, because I generally don't check for replies in threads in case I feel like replying and then things get heated/derailed.

^Yeah, I don't really understand the success of Omori.  Doesn't really look interesting to me but I guess the creator has a following on the web comic the game was based on.

A couple more Kickstarter campaigns that interest me launched recently:

The Way - an action adventure game inspired by Another World (aka "Out of this World" in the US)

Red Goddess- a "Metroidvania" action / adventure game.  I just really like the visuals and music for this one.

Well it looks like we'll be seeing those games in the future :)

I hope to have my kickstarter soon! Would have been 2 weeks earlier but my laptop was in repair.

Witchmarsh A side-scrolling action RPG set in 1920s Massachusetts. Create and manage a team of investigators in a story-driven supernatural mystery. Really like the concept of this one and I'm all for RPGs that take place anywhere other than the generic Tolkien-esque medieval fantasy setting.

Also, a couple games I have Kickstarted have recently announced release dates.  Divinity: Original Sin (which is currently in Early Access) will have a full release on June 20th.      Quest for Infamy (a Quest For Glory style adventure / RPG hyrbrid) will release on June 26th.   Unrest (an RPG set in Ancient India) is coming out on July 23rd.

A Kickstarter campaign is active for Insomnia , a post-apocalyptic, "diesel punk" RPG with RTwP combat (e.g., Baldur's Gate, DA: O, etc.). Has some really nice graphics and sounds quite ambitious, promising non-linear quests with multiple solutions.
