Question about X360 Controller

Since im going full PC, I figure ill get a game controller for some of those games that just dont feel right without it.  Ive heard mention about the X360 controllers being a good buy.

They just plug right into the USB port correct?  Also, is there any specific kind of driver ill need to find, or is it basically a plug and play kinda deal?

I figured I'd ask you guys instead of searching around the web, since im pretty sure you guys know alot about it.
