PS3/4/Vita SRPG Natural Doctrine

Making a thread for this now that there's an actual video of it featuring gameplay. I feel like this could pass as the love child between Valkyria Chronicles and Vandal Hearts given how much of a PS1 game with PS2 level graphics this looks like.
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

The movement is definitely reminiscent of Valkyria Chronicles. It's surprising to me that a game that revolutionized the turn-based strategy genre like VC seemingly had so little effect on the genre. It often seems to me that, while new games in longstanding SRPG series are still fun, that they are still so dependent on many of their legacy systems and fearful of branching out. With that in mind I really liked the hodge-podge look to this game with high (if maybe hodge-podge fantasy) and a more contemporary movement mechanic.

Now the question is, will it be released outside of Japan?

VC mostly built upon Sakura Taisen and added light third person shooter elements.

I mostly pop in occasionally to give my two cents on certain controversial things, so if you disagree then send a PM, because I generally don't check for replies in threads in case I feel like replying and then things get heated/derailed.

IIRC, the VC team was comprised of members of the ST team.

And on that note. The last I heard, the VC team was drafted to make a Shining game or two a few years ago (but I CBFd to look up the specifics).

There were a couple of Shining games built on the PSP Valkyria Chronicles engine.  I don't know if it was actually the Valkyria Chronicles team that made them or if they were just reusing the engine.

And could we pick a thread?  Or have the mods merge them or something.  This is getting confusing...

Apparently, this game's online multiplayer is going to come in the form of a CCG....

At least until you actually start playing and it turns back into SRPG mode, I guess.

Dear Japan,

Stop making everything a fucking card game.

OK, in all seriousness this just sounds like a way of restricting how many units people bring into multiplayer.  The 'card' metaphor is completely irrelevant...I think.  I mean, they talk about a 'deck' but that's just your total unit supply...you aren't randomly drawing cards from it...I think...

Dear Japan,

Stop making everything a fucking card game.

This. I remember the card system in Yggdra Union drove me nuts. I didn't see how it was necessary, and it made the gameplay more complex than it needed to be. I kept wondering why I couldn't just move my units and attack, defend, etc.

Anyway, yeah, this seems like an arbitrary addition. I get the sense that Japanese developers feel they need to have some sort of story, or gimmick to what is otherwise just in-game function.

I couldn't agree more. Card systems are such a major turn-off for me in games.

I mean hell, cards are a gaming necessity where other forms of input and interface are absent. In other words with a screen, character models/sprites, a controller, menus, and et cetera present there is no freakin' need for cards!!!!

That is, unless you are in fact playing cards within your RPG. A certain (highly addictive) FF mini game comes to mind. Now THAT was video game card-work at its best!
In this world is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcedental entity or law? is it like the hand of god hovering above? Perhaps Man has no control even over his own will…

Assuming this isn't just some April Fool's prank, we've now got a publisher and release window for the west.

Honestly, I'm a bit surprised that NISA is the one to pick it up.  But hey, good for them.
