Would care if this had even a 1% chance of leaving Japan.

But it won't and thus I don't.

5% complete?  Dear god, we'd see it Stateside in two years minimum if we were even seeing it at all.

A new title by the Wild Arms studio really does get me excited... but without that "guarantee" (or high possibility) for an overseas release, I don't want to or simply won't feel a thing for it.

I guess it's somewhat a victory for Wild Arms fans, continued annoyance for Shining fans (Well, unless you actually liked those non-Camelot games I guess).

So, the protagonist is more of a dragon than the Ryus, it's made by the Wild Arms folks and it could very well be a good Shining game?

It's like a holy trinity of sweet memories...

It's hard to get excited when Sega has the publishing rights.

There are rumors going around that Sega will publish Shin Megami Tensei IV in Europe, meaning they might actually do what we want them to do: let Atlus handle RPG localizations and take care of the easy part (distribution) themselves. So hey, who knows?

It's hard to get excited when they put Shining in the title and it's not a Shining game. I don't think there's a single aspect of the games left over that resembles anything in Shining in the Darkness/Shining Force anymore.

I'm just a cranky old man when it comes to the Shining series as you can probably tell.

To be fair though, there have been a couple of Shining SRPGs over the years like Ark and Feather.

It's just that A) the game systems used for Shining games are all over the goddamn place (the that currently on its way out is a goddamn 2D fighting game for Christ's sake), and B) I can't help but feel that said game systems are merely smokescreens for the Dating Sim/Harem Adventure hiding at the game's core given the Hentai-like character designs.

While I love the classic Shining games, I think it might be time for us to realize that those aren't the definition of "Shining" anymore-- there are more of these modern, varied subgenre titles than classic Shining games now.

Although Shining Ark was pretty rad.

While I'm sceptical about Sega publishing the game, I look forward to Media Vision's take on the series. They definitely deserve our trust.

By the way, I never got around to playing the Shining Force games on the PS2. Are they any good?

Update for some actual information.

I hate to say it, but the concept of playing as a complete non-human is actually intriguing (especially when said non-human is metal enough to have a goddamn sword for a horn). I'm actually somewhat disappointed that this will never leave Japan.

The Shining Force games on PS2 area almost universally awful. I hated every single one of them for different reasons.

Definitely no need to get excited over a game that will likely never see an English version.
