A short poem I just wrote about people depriving themselves of the beautiful things in life. A couple of sad but wonderful board members I talk to inspired this spur-of-the moment composition (you both know who you are!).
I hope you like it, comments and critique are welcome.
"We Are Our Worst Enemy"
Loneliness is not the culprit of sorrow,
Nor is the heart when it is carved in, hollow.
One may be without companionship and without friend,
Yet still treasure the days until one’s solitary end.
Sorrow is not a lack of passion,
Nor is it the absence of path or direction.
One may be a wanderer and boast no desires,
Yet worship the moments before one’s life expires.
We wreck this curse upon our own souls,
By forgetting the diamond within the coal.
A transient life that is as dark as it is sorrowful,
Plays with time to hide all we find beautiful.
The verdure and scarceness of leaves, of trees…
The vastness and silence of oceans, of seas…
The sanctity and splendour of stars, of skies…
We steal from ourselves before our very eyes.
By none other then: Nur Shireen Talib (that's me :P).

You are one of the few who can make something as bleak as deprivation into something beautiful. The wordplay and flow are great. Love the last line.
