Inspired by Dincrest.

My favorite traditional American one is probably Silver Bells.

And my favorite *RUSSIAN* traditional one is... Виноградие, I think it's called, although I can't find any audio of it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMQ-DTnMqi8 here's a sweet techno/metal version though.

My favorite traditional is probably The Little Drummer Boy.  When performed well, that song gets me choked up.  Simple, yet heartfelt, story.

My favorite modern/original Christmas song is, as mentioned earlier, Christmas in Hollis by Run-DMC.

Haha - I have Christmas in Hollis!

My favorite is the new Bob Dylan Christmas album.  j/k - that thing is TERRIBLE.  Awful, awful, awful.

I'd have to say my real favorite is the Elvis Christmas album, although another few classics are way up on my list.

The compilation album "Maybe This Christmas Tree" (third in the "Maybe This Christmas" series) has a couple of great songs on it. Jars of Clay's "Christmas for Cowboys" and Pedro the Lion's "I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day" are fantastic.

Seriously, "I Heard The Bells..." was for many years one of my least favorite songs. Why? Frank Sinatra, that's why. You don't take profound lyrics like that and shmooze it up with his facade of a personality. David Bazan (Pedro the Lion) does the lyrics some justice.

All right, we are going to use a fan brush here and uh why don't you take some hunter green and we are going to put a happy little bush right down over here in the corner there and that'll just be our little secret and if you tell anyone that that bush is there I will come to your house and I will cut you.

Interestingly, I just heard an outstanding rendition of MFT the other day by a local jazz combo. The strange thing is, they played it in 4/4, which usually makes me roll my eyes, but this thing kicked! I think they went into 7/8 later. Indescribably good though.
