Dragon Warriors II
« on: October 23, 2014, 07:56:11 AM »
....or Dragon Quest Warriors (or Dragon Warriors Quest).

So during this year's TGS, Sony's pre-TGS spectacular back at the start of September. Squeenix announced a collaboration with Koei Temco and Team Omega Force, in a completely original move and not just done by another long standing franchise or software developer, to celebrate their core franchise, Dragon Quest's, upcoming 11th game announcement/30th anniversary/sweet Dragon Quest style Special Edition PS4/whatever. Now that the game's development is a bit further along, I figured that now might as well be as good of a time as any to post this (and hey, you never know, a localization announcement might not be totally off the table; especially since Musou games have a solid track record of getting out into the west, even in spite of some of their game's source material).

Here's the initial announcement (and a look at that doomed never to leave Japan Special Edition PS4).

http://gematsu.com/2014/10/previous-dragon-quest-characters-will-fully-voiced-dragon-quest-heroes

Here's the first set of announced returning characters.

http://gematsu.com/2014/10/dragon-quest-viii-jessica-albert-yangus-confirmed-dragon-quest-heroes

Here's the second.

http://www.siliconera.com/2014/10/23/dragon-quest-v-heroines-bianca-nera-join-fight-dragon-quest-heroes/

And here's the sorta kinda confirmed at the moment third set.

That said, here's hoping that A) it comes over to the west, and B) that it'll also draw some characters from some of the more obscure entries in the series like the Legend of Hero Abel anime (or whichever one that somehow was shown on Saturday mornings in the west for an incredibly brief amount of time).

Edit: This thread is now Dragon Warriors 2. We shall now be joined by the Prince of Cannock and the Princess of Moonbrooke in our quest to put an end to Hargon and his wicked schemes, which is now four times as large as it was before.

Hmmm looking through the character list, I can't help but just sort of shrug and say w/e. Not really sure who, if anyone, from Dragon Quest that they could put in to get me excited. >.>

I hope we get this, with DQ not quite being dead in the West.

Some voice actor stuff and DQ3 Hero alts for the two leads. Chances are that they and the other original characters will end up as the DQ MC brigade at some point since it was pretty odd for the game to announce previous characters and not start with/include the MCs (they're practically a prerequisite whenever DQ is involved).

Also have an Alena trailer. Unfortunately, I somehow suspect that because this is a Musou game, the ridiculousness of her stats and abilities from DQIV will not translate over very well.
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

Have a new trailer.
I really want to like this game, but I can't find myself getting excited by the cast. >.> Sadly I can't think of any better cast choices. I guess I am just going to have to take Nera, Bianca, and Terry and hope that they can carry the game for me or something.

If they include a lot of characters from 3-5 and 8, I'll be happy...

I'd personally like a few from VII. Maribel, Keifer, and/or Aira would all be fun.  Particularly Maribel would have absolutely hilarious battle quotes.

We've already got 3 out of the 87 non-Hero playable character from DQIV, the two brides of DQV, Terry from DQVI and 2 of the 3 playable non-Hero characters from DQVIII. I imagine Omega Force will choose to hold back on dumping the full cast list until at least Dragon Warriors 2 like they always do, but we could still get folks like Taloon, Sancho, Pankaraz, Perry, Debora and Ashlynn.

Aira and that Martial Artist chick from that Legend of Hero Abel anime are the only ones I'm still holding out for (also optimistically hoping for Dragon Quest Sword's Fluerette but that's as crack of a pick as they get for this series). My initial big pick was Alena and she got in on day 1.

We're already halfway there.

Or Psaro. We could always get Psaro.

I suppose we needed a character that you do not pursue.

Also boxart.

Psaro is stupidly popular in Japan, I'm not really surprised he's in. I'm more surprised that he wasn't announced already, actually.

(Of IV's villains, I actually preferred  Estark.  That battle felt much more grand-epic-final-battle-y to me. Also, better boss theme).
