3DS XL MM version!
...sadly no game...and no AC adapter... and King Midas couldn't keep his hands off it (awesome design on it though).

C-stick camera is back!

I know I'm late in this topic, but this was quite possibly the worst way you could announce a new Zelda game. Whatever happening to kickass reveal trailers?

Which one? Zelda U got a hella kick ass trailer last E3 of a peaceful and calm field suddenly exploding into a boss fight with Tek Arrows and Lazor Beams, and Majora's Mask 3DS got two NDirects ago, which was mild but followed it up with an amusing bit afterwards where the moon was bearing down on Iwata. If you meant this Direct then yeah, Japan had a better trailer since it featured the Happy Mask Salesman.
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

I barely remembered the trailer from last year. In fact, I didn't go watch Nintendo press conferences because they're usually really boring, especially the Nintendo Directs.

As the General Zelda topic, I feel that I should post this: http://www.siliconera.com/2015/01/27/legend-zelda-link-past-manga-republished-north-america/

While admittedly, I have other ways of viewing this particular comic/manga, I've yet to own my own physical copy of the series (unfortunately, I didn't get into NP until Issue 48 which was in the middle of the first Star Fox comic/manga arc, and finagling with the Nintendo/Super Power Club for the compiled reprints of the SMW/LttP comics/manga was too much for me twenty years ago).

Of course, in lieu of all that, its still the best non-game form of aLttP to date (even if it does go wildly off the rails plotwise; then again, I don't think there was a NP comic that didn't; it's too bad they stopped doing those after a while, they were one of the biggest draws for me back in the day and was one of the reasons why I stopped subscribing to it for most of the N64 era).
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

I was just about to post that!!  YES!!!  I kinda REALLY wanna buy it for nostalgia's sake (despite its liberties with the plot).

I also really loved the Mario one --- that comic was seriously goofy and the best kind of funny.  An early attempt of giving Mario a voice and it turned out great.

So Majora's Mask 3D is out next week, Good Smile Company is making another Link nendo but his MM version (plus another one that looks inspired by Skyward Sword that ISN'T the creepy First4Figures one), and the New 3DS is out soon which allows MM to have a free rotating camera.

Nintendo has been playing nice lately.

Take your pic of any various "Hahaha! You so funny!" gifs to insert here. I love Nintendo dearly, but their behavior lately is disgraceful to say the least.

I'm satisfied, anyways (sorry, I came down with a bug and my mind is a loading bar with a turtle leading the way).

The whole New 3DS and XL thing being the only major bummer... but i'd be lying if I wasn't happy with the bigger screen.

I do think that if they don't announce a few more titles, then they're back to a serious game drought again.

Majora's Mask arrived!!

Initial impressions a-go!

= Loading icon is....actually kinda creepy.

= I always loved how the game starts.  It's a game that knows it just ended a big adventure, so the soft open with the well-known hero and steed in a mysterious wood is subtle but lovely.

= GOD I love how Skull Kid looks on the 3DS.  The gold in his hat really shines.

In general though, I love how strangely a predesigned character matches the strangeness of the titular mask. (I actually always forget how goofy he looks without it.  It's like a black duck meets a scarecrow?? I dunno).

= Truly, I think this goes for MOST of gaming, but screenshots barely do a game justice compared to the living, moving environments in action.  MM 3DS looks amazing.  Hell, the above screenshot shows off how fucking awesome TREES look and they're just wood.

= I feel like Alice and Wonderland comparisons aren't thrown around enough when talking about this game...  Hell, Link gets a mask that even makes him big at one point. :P
But yeah, I guess Lewis Carroll didn't go so grand as an impending collision with the moon...

= I love that Link actually has the wisdom of being an adult too at this point.  Maybe that's why he's limping and tired at the start because he's already tired of being a kid again after being an awesome-looking adult.  I do think it's great they let Young Link use bigger swords and ride a horse...y'know privledges his younger self didn't have before.  And I like how he shows off a few backflips while chasing Skull Kid.

= Visually, it's absolutely amazing how damn well the creative team knew what they were doing.  The fact the game starts you off as a Deku Shrub that looks like it's always on the verge of tears is a conscious and brilliant way to set up the tone of the game.

= Sheikah Stones are back.  Normally i scoff on hand-holding, but I've always been intimidated by this game.
They still talk very casually too.

= Truly disappointing: The insert cover for the game doesn't have any pictures inside the squares. :(  Perfect place for mask artwork dammit!!

= Also a bit disappointing: Really wish the game went for the cel-shaded black like on the old school artwork...from...omg...fifteen years ago....FIFTEEN YEARS AAAAAHHHHHHH

...huh, should I game Journal this?? :S
Then again, I'm sure a bunch of y'all are gonna play (maybe)

The only Zelda map that really comes close to the scale of the one shown during the TLAs was this one.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/nes/563487-zelda-ii-the-adventure-of-link/faqs/17100

Linked for size.

re: The bit in the lower left corner is where Zelda 1 took place. That huge graveyard peninsula is the size of all of Zelda 1.

Anyway I kind of want this but I have no real desire to do the swamp stuff again, also I can't comfortably hold a 3DS like LA is really awkward feeling to me even.

Actually, the Graveyard is larger than the Zelda 1 area. Moreover, the Island Continent where the Fourth Temple is located is roughly 3x the size of the Zelda 1's region.

And yeah, the Swamp is probably the most boring section of the game, though its not nearly as tedious as gathering the Zora Eggs, or obnoxious as climbing the Stone Tower (hopefully they streamlined the hell out of this), or as tricky as trying to roll up into Snowhead Temple without ramping off the side of a cliff.
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

The Swamp wasn't too bad for me.  The zig-zagging between three different screens as a Goron got on my nerves a bit more.

As for changes, all I've noticed (due to where I am) is Woodfall stray fairy locations changed up a bit (oh, and they're in full 3D!  But still look weird...).

Changes to boss fights as well.  Stone Tower I hear is almost completely different, and (Again, from where I'm at) Odolwa changed from hack n' slash to something with the "Zelda process" (ie, where you're tasked with exposing the weakpoint, then hacking at it 3 separate times).

The swamp is not 'bad', its just boring since you find the witch, take the ride, buy some beans, redux the Castle Break-in sequence from OoT, then platform a bit more until the Swamp Temple which is mostly large empty rooms with a Stray Fairy or two a piece, a mid-boss, a block pushing 'puzzle', some platforming action and Odolwa (whom I actually appreciated not having the 'Zelda Boss Process' to a certain extent; it made the dungeon feel more like Level 1 in Zelda 1). Then again, its probably the fact that the only things you unlock in the swamp from clearing the dungeon is another archery minigame, the Butler Race and the ability to travel through said swamp without taking the tour or hopping on lily pads. That, or its the fact that the game only has 4 dungeons in it which is why such a 'starter dungeon' feels more wasteful than it should.

Snowhead Mountain's biggest problem is the fact that everything's frozen over, which meant having to dick around with Hot Spring Water until you could get some Fire Arrows. Events-wise, you had invisible platforms, the Forge, Powder Kegs (which unlocked Romani Ranch, Epona and the Bunny Hood), ghosts, Goron Racing, Goht, the Razor Sword and so on. There's a shitload of stuff to do and get at Snowhead.

Btw Dice, if the Happy Mask Salesman gives you the Bomber Notebook after you regain your body, what do the Bombers give you instead?

Anyways, http://gematsu.com/2015/02/hyrule-warriors-ganon-pack-dlc-due-japan-next-week

Ganon mode!? FUCK YEAH!!!

I actually don't know if I got anything from the Bombers this time.  They give 'rumours' now as part of helping new MM players along.

I also realized I missed that friggen quest after clearing Woodfall to get a bottle.  Is it worth redoing the temple?  IIRC, I'm gonna have to for at least another quest coming up...but maaan that's kinda lousy they "incomplete themselves" again...

And yay, looking forward to completing this place.  Mind you, with so few temples I do like how much "opens up" with each of them beaten.  And respawning Dodongos has been an excellent and easy revenue stream since Goron's can punch their tail till dead in three hits.  Also, not to correct you, but the Bunny Hood can be gotten even before you finish Woodfall (if you were gonna do another playthrough).  That thing made the Deku Butler race a breeze.

I already decided doing three days worth of Deku Playgrounding isn't gonna happen, so there's my incomplete heart piece there (there's always one in each game I don't really feel like putting the effort in for).
