That's a motivation to play DS Chrono Trigger- to see how the translation changes.  Considering what they did with Frog, I'm now doubly curious as to what they do with Ayla.  I'm at the "Tata and the Frog" chapter so I'm not too far from going to prehistoric times.

Most of all, I want to take Frog and Ayla to meet Chrono's mom.  I'm sure I said this in this thread, but everyone meeting Chrono's mom was one of my favorite things, and mom's interactions with Frog and Ayla were my favorite interactions.  The "I am you, you are me" interactions in Chrono Cross made me similarly giddy.

Yummy frog, for Ayla eat?

Are you going for the DS-exclusive ending? It ties into CC iirc.

The ending that ties into CC is also in the PS1 version and doesn't really have any requirements beyond finishing the game.

I thought the PS1 exclusive ending just has Lucca finding Fresh Kid. The DS ending has
Code: [Select]
Magus fighting Schala fused to the Time Devourer only Schala's insane and/or really emo for no apparent reason.
Tho apparently it's an NG+ only thing.

The PS1 ending added Crono and Marle getting married, Guardia getting trashed and Masamune taken five years after the events of CT and a scene where Lucca's playing with her remote controlled Robo toy when baby Kid magics in front of her out of the blue 90's anime style along with Marle's/Schala's Pendant around her neck.

The DS version specifically added an extra boss fight against Dalton and CC's Time Devourer which is unwinable and everyone save Magus gets killed and then Dalton's all "Gotta go build an army to take over the world now, kthnxby", then Magus goes "Gotta don a mask to show up in Radical Dreamers then wicked tan myself into CC's Guile now, later gator.", then Lightning goes "Gotta fall into this arbitrary time hole for absolutely no other reason than to get my waifu status upgraded to goddess valkyrie and to somehow kickstart a sequel where a godmodded OP SoB with a noice voice kills me offscreen while some other dipshit gets my sister killed, whoops-a-daisy.", then Aya Brea goes "Gotta get married to this jackass who ineptly tried to sabotage me and for some reason forget to a perimeter check for the first and last time of my life while my pre-teen adopted daughter tries to pull off a Freaky Friday switch that somehow manages to turn my soul into an army of time traveling tentacle monsters while one of my co-workers turns into a massively creepy shitlord who wants to essentially bang my pre-teen daughter while some other creepy shitlord also wants to have his way with her by reverting her back into her nubile/unspoiled pre-teen body then proceeding to crawl into her womb or some horse shit. No wait! Fuck that, I'm outta here.", and then Vincent goes "MY GIRLFRIEND IS DEAD STILL! FILL MY DARK SOUL WITH LIGHT!!!" then listens to Cure albums while that jackass that pilots the Cait Sith Unit 2 goes "Get your ass back here Vincent, there's something something, Tron Guys, something something, your dead girlfriend, something something guy who doesn't understand how jockstraps work, something something gal who doesn't understand how lab coats work, something something Gackt something." then Vincent goes "MY GIRLFRIEND IS EVEN DEADER! BUT THIS PREPUBESCENT GIRL SAYS THAT SHE IS 20 SOMETHING YEARS OLD AND IS ALSO MY DEAD GIRLFRIEND!!! FILL MY DARK SOUL WITH LIGHT!!!!!" then goes off to grab his Cure Albums to listen to while presumably have sex with his new prepubescent girlfriend. Then of course I'm all like "WTFH SQUEENIX!?"

Wait. What were we talking about again?
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

I'm in the prehistoric era of Chrono Trigger DS and I'm happy to see that Ayla talks primitively in that "me Grimlock" way (after trying to "snu-snu" Chrono on that cliff face right in front of Marle).  After being disappointed that Frog did not speak in "thou hath" this was nice.  I took Marle and Robo with me to the prehistoric era and it was funny watching Ayla trying to figure out what Robo was but decided she liked him anyway because he was powerful.  I also liked that the drinking contest between Crono and Ayla involves "skull smash" rather than soup.  And as funny as it is to have Lucca deny getting "white girl wasted" the next morning, I thought it was equally funny to hear Robo talk about how alcohol affects humans' behavior.

I find it hilarious how far out of their way imported games in the 90's would go to remove alcohol references.

Robo even comments that the liquid (which Ayla calls Skull Smash) has many impurities or intoxicants, I can't remember which word he used.  It also struck me as funny that the next morning Ayla was out cold, hung over, and woke up impressed that Crono got up early despite chugging more skull smash.  I'm still surprised Ayla didn't take to being woken up "guns blazing" like Lunch in DragonBall.  Ayla was surprisingly amiable.  Back when I used to drink, I was certainly more ornery than a one-legged man in a bucket kicking contest if someone woke me up the next morning while hung over.

...and this is still my favorite piece of music from Chrono Trigger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJBHFjwet7s

And Klutz- you could totally make a drinking game out of that.  Play a 90s RPG and take a shot of tequila if the character is drinking tea instead of booze, take a swig of Not Your Father's Root Beer if it's soda/soft drink, take a shot or two of orange liqueur or Apple Pucker if they're drinking juice...

What about milk? Seemed to be the go-to for a lot of those JRPGs.

Totally don't mean any disrespect here, I love you Din, but...eugh, why???
I mean, I think all human beings have terrible taste in music, that's what makes it fun.  So I'm curious what you're hearing that I don't?  I like the bit around the 1:20 mark only, and again i'm asking not to be rude (I started it like that, sorry), but I'm genuinely curious.

I realize I'm committing a heresy here by admitting I'm actually not too crazy for the CT OST, more specifically, too many tunes fit the mood more than I'd really want  to put on my iPod (2300 A.D.'s overworld being an example).  The tracks I love I *adore*, but the rest do absolutely nothing for me.  Hell, even Zeal or Schala theme (the latter I only appreciated when the Chrono Resurrection project worked their magic with it, combining a CC theme in there too https://youtu.be/rED6ulas-hA )

I'll take a guess he likes it because he plays bass.

I like the CT OST but I wouldn't say I'm crazy about it, but then I don't think I could say that about any OST. I don't see how you can't feel anything from Corrodors of Time though, that song is just great.

Especially the Smooth McGroove version, am I right?  Makes me shed a tear when I hear it.  I know it's supposed to be... somewhat silly in it's very nature, but... to me it just feels so earnest.  A moving rendition.

As far as general BGM in CT goes, I always really, really loved the Guardia Castle theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkVh7dB8Yg8

It always made me feel like the castle was a bustling, busy place where important people made important decisions.

Another favorite is the BGM for the Ocean Palace. It's a very cinematic area as there are cutscenes when you move down the floors, and the music just added to the "race against the clock" atmosphere of the area: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7pML9YzOYg

I like it for the in-game mood it sets, I think it's perfect for Zeal and irreplaceable for it.  It's not a song I put on my iPod or whatever.  Dunno why, I usually like a sitar, just...eh.  Again, the Chrono Resurrection version is quite pretty.
And I admire the reason why you think Din like the first song x)

Ocean Palace is really cool too

The simple answer is "I just do."  That piece resonates with me.  It's just so damn funky and tribal with its unconventional (read: not 4/4) rhythm and minor key melody/money riff.  It's like how I can't really describe why I love punk and metal more than other forms of music and whenever I try to get academic about it, it sounds shallow.  I respect, and listen to, jazz, classical, hip-hop and various other genres, but punk and metal just do "it" for me.  Kinda like how you're out with your friends and they notice a hot girl/guy and you're like, "eh, she's okay I guess" and then some other guy/girl comes along that has you trailing them with your eyes and your friends are like, "Ahh, so THAT'S your type, huh?"

Haha that's totally a fair answer and I *completely* get it then and I can appreciate it for the same reason. :)
I'm sure I got a ton of songs like that myself.
