I had no idea what this was, but upon googling it I saw Compile Heart.
Not a good sign...

Compile Heart hasn't been so bad lately. They do have a certain flavor that folks are either a fan of or not, but I'm looking forward to this one. Mostly because it will be the first PS4 game I get that wasn't originally made for another system. Not that I'm expecting it to take full advantage of the hardware or anything like that.

Pretty much what Klutz said. Compile Heart has mechanically improved by leaps and bounds over the past several years. In terms of story and characters...eh. They lean far too hard on cliches and running gags. It doesn't work for multiple game series like Neptunia because they start becoming carbon copies and 'inoffensively bland' isn't a flavor you want to swallow again and again and again. But for solo title projects it can be passable.

Compile Heart and Idea Factory have been improving noticeably.  Agarest 2 was surprisingly good.  Mugen Souls Z wins most improved student.  Fairy Fencer F was a step in a more positive direction.  I played and reviewed all 3.

Hyundai cars used to be poorly made tin cans back in the 1980s, but now they're one of the most reliable cars out there, on par with Honda or Toyota.
You can brag about your 5000+ friends on social media all you want, but riddle me this: how many of them would help you move?

Still not an actual "Magical Girl the JRPG" because you're playing their 'token VN sausage' manager. Also in spite of the purposeful merging of the genres, Idols and Mahou Shoujos are still fundamentally different things. Namely due to the implications that Japan's Idol Industry carries and the more rigid definition of what an Idol is versus what a Mahou Shoujo could be. BTW, would the Saturn or GameBoy Magic Knight Rayearth games count as "Magical Girl the JRPG"?

That said, I've heard nothing extraordinary about the game other than that it's nice looking but be prepared to spend large quantities of time in the same large areas. It also features a costume break feature that, ironically for once, is played up as almost entirely negative (unless you're looking for some kind of Hard Modo), at least, that's what it seems like given the complete lack of visual coverage of such a mechanic.
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

After recently re-watching .Hack//Roots I might have to start calling you Saburou for your love of analogies.

Wasn't Subaru in Signs though (and the fourth game in IMOQ)?

Saburou is a different character.  S/he was the eyes and ears for Pi in Roots and was the only person to witness the battle between Haseo and Tri-Edge.

From what I've seen it's pretty much part for parcel the same as The 3rd Birthday's HP Loss = Clothing Loss. Only in the case of OQ larger, repeated bursts of damage do this where as T3B was more of a gradual wear and tear for each nick.

*Googles*

...

Y'know I'm surprised a hybrid song/idol title mixed with RPG took this long to surface.  I'm also surprised Banco didn't come up with the idea first since they could have just mashed two of their big franchises easily. ;P

Well RPGamer and Siliconera spanked it. Then again, its only RPLamer and Siliconerror.

Mmm, from what I can skim over I wouldn't be surprised if those are both pretty accurate reviews. This snippet in particular made me giggle.

- World of idiots

Sounds basically like the same trash writing that plagued Mugen Souls Z is prevalent here as well. Hopefully the primary difference being that OQ doesn't try to derive it's humor from 'lawl rape coffin' every five minutes. ~_~; Also if they don't just have one of the laziest 'Normal Ends' on the planet like Mugen Souls Z did then the bad writing will be ignorable enough for what people seem to be agreeing is fairly fun combat. Again...unlike that OTHER game....*smashes MSZ with a hammer* Holy crap will I forever disagree with that being an improved sequel...

First off, love those names.
Second, RPGamer has been a pretty tough critic lately --- I actually kind of admire them for it.  But fer real, reading those, is anyone too surprised??  I'm sure this is a game that knows its audience and is aiming for that specific sweetspot.

Either way I'm just kinda grateful the RPG drought of yesteryear is behind us.
