Persona 5
« on: June 24, 2015, 12:55:59 PM »
Guess we don't already have a thread for it.
New trailer leaked, from the P4 dancing CE
http://www.siliconera.com/2015/06/24/persona-5-new-trailer-leaked/

I mostly pop in occasionally to give my two cents on certain controversial things, so if you disagree then send a PM, because I generally don't check for replies in threads in case I feel like replying and then things get heated/derailed.

Here's the lyrics video for P4DAN Dance! (or as I incorrectly red: "Dancel") (and it's old so you've probably already heard it)

But here's the swank as hell opening video for it: https://youtu.be/-VBmx2V9GFU

God I really love how I somehow get a substantially stronger "P3" vibe from this than anything else. I may be wrong, though I hope I'm not, when I pick up on a distinctly darker and more stylish approach than we saw with Persona 4.

I know expectations can prove nasty things to hold onto but this really looks super-on-point with what I'd like to see happen with this series. 4 was good but sort of scared me in the sense that Persona was becoming a wee-bit more "playful" in nature as it grew up.

This is totally one of those franchises that I hope remains popular catering to the fan base and NOT by way of mainstreaming and bleeding the hell out of it.
I am more a battlefield than a Ninja.

I just hope, as I have before, they don't reintroduce the negative elements of older Persona games such as the conversation system in the first and both parts of the second game, which drove me to a guide, not a sign of good development. I'd also say ditch the honorifics since they make the dialogue often sound unnatural especially with the voice acting (and I hope to God they don't have the protagonist's allies address him as "Leader"), and another game that takes place in Japan, The World Ends With You, did just fine without them.

I think the honorifics add a bit of charm to the games, personally. But I realize a lot of folks on the forum disagree.

They sound fine with character nicknames (i.e. "Ai-chan"), but full, more complex character first names, on the other hand (i.e. "Akihiko-senpai")...

The card trading thing in P2 was poorly implemented, but demon negotiation is an essential part of SMT and I'd consider it a positive sign f they brought it Persona 5 and made the game more SMTish.

I am ashamed none of you are talking about the AMAZING new trailer from TGS. Sure, we have to wait a little bit longer (Unless you're in Europe in which abandon all hope) but HOT DAMN THIS GAME LOOKS GLORIOUS.

It looks like they've achieved a really nice balance of the very different tones in P3 and P4. Looks to be a pretty dark story with flamboyant colorful costumes and a mascot cat character.

I love the whole aesthetic P5 seems to be going for. There's nothing I've seen that I'm disappointed in yet. And yet Atlus had to delay the game, which I'm disappointed about, but at least next summer is planned out.

I already mentioned this, but I hope P5 is a bit more like Devil Survivor in that the play up the national emergency aspect of the game. I know that's more of a SMT thing to do, but sometimes I felt like P3 in particular was too isolated in its plotting. I'm also a sucker for the apocalypse.

As a lover of all disaster movies, good or bad, I absolutely loved that aspect of Devil Survivor and I agree more of that would be very welcoming.
