it seem nintendo has don't it
Never since release of the Nintendo DS in Japan in December 2004 has its demand been so high. Caused by recent software releases that increased the popularity of the console incredibly, everyone seems to be going crazy for Nintendo's handheld. It's hard to catch a train in Tokyo in which you won't notice someone playing Nintendo DS in these days. Gamers are no longer the typical kind of person that you expect to play a video game. Rather than that, older gamers and women now caused fascination for the handheld also, many of them interested in a number of recently released brain exercise games.

As indicated by various suppliers during the last couple of days, first day supply is going to be insufficient. Based on information provided by distributors, Nintendo has only shipped approx. 80,000 units to the entire Japanese market today. Further, only major store chains will be supplied initially, wholesalers and smaller dealers have to wait for restock.

As a result, those who wanted to pick up a Nintendo DS™ Lite in Japan today had to get out into the cold last night and camp outside waiting for their favorite store to open. The following pictures published on Japanese news sites today should give a good impression about the situation.

........features..........
   •     Improved smaller and lighter version of the Nintendo DS™
     •     Weights just 218g instead of 275g and measures 133mm x        73.9mm x 21.5mm
     •     Screen backlight adjustable
     •     Portable gaming console w/ 2 LCD screens
     •     ARM9 67 Mhz Main CPU
     •     120K Polygons/sec
     •     30M/s pixel fillrate
     •     4 Mbytes RAM
     •     ARM7 16.8 Mhz Secondary CPU
     •     2-D: 4 backgrounds, 128 sprites
     •     GBA backwards compatible
     •     Wireless multiplayer for up to 16 players
     •     Game stored on rewriteable media up to 1GB

That thing looks like the illegitimate offspring of a Game & Watch and an iPod. I like it.

I haven't bought myself a DS yet, but I'll probably get a DS Lite eventually, as there are a load of DS and GBA games I want to play. I'm a little wary, though - knowing Nintendo they'll probably release yet another version of the DS right after I buy my Lite.

Had the new version's changes been purely cosmetic, I would have passed.  But the brighter screen is making me want to trade in my fat DS for the slinker, sexier one.  I'll have to see how my finacial situation is when it comes out.  Right now, I'd rather spend my money on new games than get a better version of something I already have.

My DS works fine and it gives me no trouble so I do not have interest in DS Lite. If a day occurs when my DS dies on me (doubtful) or broken than I will defanitely look at the DS Lite more. It mainly serves as a replacement or someone who still did not get a DS, at least in my opinion.

Since the DS is based on physical touchy-touchy of the screen making it smaller doesn't appeal to me. I'll pass on this one.

I think the screen size is the same.  The rest of it is just a bit smaller and lighter.  Have you checked out the side-by-side comparisons of the screen brightness?  It's amazing.  Also the start button is on the side which is better.  My mom has a DS and she keeps accidently turning the thing off due to the close proximity to the d-pad.

CW's right, the screens are the same size, the system's just smaller; find some comparison shots, the DS screen if anything looks larger due to the system being smaller.

Yeah but still, the DS Lite is smaller. And that'd be murder on my hands. I mean, the normal DS is uncomfortable enough, making it dinkier would just cramp my hands even more than it already does...

I think it's more the shape of the system than the size of it that makes hands cramp up; the SP is much smaller but more comfortable to use. I can't really tell if that's fixed or not though, but it doesn't look like it jabs into your hands as much if I'm remembering right..

I'll buy it as soon as the next system nintendo pushes out comes out. I seem to do that with Nintendo systems. I bought a GBA when the SP came out, then I bought a GCN when the DS came out, and I suppose I'll either buy the DS when the Revolution comes out, or the Lite comes out...which ever comes first.
