The Steam version contains optional conveniences, such as lowering the encounter rate or increasing the experience rate. Content wise, the games are identical.

Best part of the old PC port using midi files was being able to easily just grab the entire OST for free. They weren't encrypted or anything, just regular ol' midi files sitting in the game's sound folder.

They kind of sound bad though, unless they made them better from the old PC port

Playstation games use... something that's dumped to a PSF file, which I THINK are closer to sample-based module music than MIDIs. Some finnish dude made a mod for the old PC version that would play PSF files instead of MIDI, although I remember it having issues with either looping tracks are resuming them properly when coming out of battle.

And I don't think the old Yamaha XG wavetable works on any remotely modern PC and even then it wasn't entirely accurate. You're not getting vocals in One Winged Angel, for instance.

Also as I mentioned in the other thread, for FFIX at least, the upscaling on the backgrounds we're seeing in the screenshots looks way off.

They fixed the PC port's audio a while back. It also has a few small translation corrections.
Friends, waffles, work. Or waffles, friends, work. Doesn't matter, but work is third.
