Final Fantasy IX Steam Release -- ACHIEVEMENTS!
« on: April 14, 2016, 01:29:29 PM »
I'm an achievement hunter, aka achievement whore.

They list an achievement for getting Excalibur II.

The PC version lets you skip FMV cut scenes and disable random encounters.

SO, I propose a race ... first to get Excalibur II on the forums wins a virtual high-five from Marcos. (yes, I just volunteered Marcos to perform a non-real action.)

Who's with me? Or rather, against me? Because I'm-a go for this thing in my first run of the PC version. >:)

I'm semi confused...if you can disable FMVs and encounters...can't you just reset the clock or set it to 0:00:00?

Does it count that I got it 15 years ago?

Anyway when I pick it up this weekend I'll see if I want to ruin the story to beat you. :p

I mean ... maybe, if there's a save file editor. But S-E shipped the PC version to allow you to do all those things. They did not ship the PC version to let you screw with the clock.

No, it doesn't count. Though I am incredibly impressed that you did it on the PS1 version.

If you want to race, sounds good to me! You're on!! :)

Extra challenge: after you get Excalibur II, leave the final dungeon and go kill Ozma before hitting 15 hours. :P:P
Mega challenge: kill Ozma BEFORE picking up Excalibur II. (is this possible? I've seen the lvl.1 runs where you just use AP skills and items to kill him. Absolute insanity)

I won't attempt those challenges. But yeah, I thought it'd be fun to race to Excalibur II. Wee!!

I would re-play this game, but I'm not putting up with that Cid-the-frog mini-game nonsense ever again (the one where you have to tap the circle button repeatedly to walk slowly towards the key near the caged Hedgehog-Pie, and if he looks back at you as you're still tapping the circle button, you have to start over. And there's a countdown timer, so you have to be careful). That was utter absurdity. And to add to that, if you fail that mini-game, it's game over. Also, you have to re-fight a crucial boss battle prior to the mentioned mini-game. That's right, there is no saving after defeating that boss. I don't have the steeled nerves and patience to put up with that anxiety-imposing mini-game. But I'll admit without reluctance that the rest of the game is fantastic.

I wouldn't mind an excuse to replay FF9 to be honest.

I remember reading some post on some other review site (that I can't find anymore so maybe I imagined this) that basically described FFIX as a "nice game for children" in this really dismissive way and now I'm too worried about getting emotionally invested in age-inappropriate videogames to want to play anything.

oh welpers.
