I love this game! I love how colourful and fun it is. I love that it's so cheesy you could put it on a sandwich. I was literally squeeing when they sang the Fire Emblem theme right before the final boss battle. It was so silly it was amazing and I love it to bits! The game is basically a big saturday morning cartoon and indulges in it whenever it can. It's absolutely glorious.

Somehow I did not realize this was out...and I do not seem to be in any rush to grab it now that I am aware. Huh.

I think I was trying to say that, but somehow didn't =-P I can't believe you have beaten it already! Going way faster than me...

Yeah it's refreshingly silly, I  mean really what is life if you don't get to sent to take singing lessons from an older pop phenom in order to help defend the world.

It was job related, but this is one of those cases were I didn't mind playing 40+ hours a week. (Game took me 50 hours to finish.)

On a more serious note: I gathered that many players don't like TMS#FE for being to pop-idol-y, but I think that's a bit unfair. Yes, the game isn't deconstructive like Persona 4/Dancing All Night is, but it does make fun of the industry. it's more about shitty content than shitty practices. The Japanese entertainment industry according to TMS#FE is a build on success gained through luck and bullshitting, dumb premises and vapid content. Take Mamori, for instance, a little girl who's known for some cooking show that's just her being cute while microwaving prepackaged food. Or that detective show that's Tsubasa is in, the one that involves a teenage detective that turns into a tomboy when she sneezes. The characters are super serious about it and this stuff is treated like the best thing ever, but the game itself is right there laughing along with you.

(My favourite bit is really small: Itsuki giving foodporn worthy reviews of every random can of soda/fastfood item he consumes.)

I'm in the third dungeon and am completely adoring how bonkers the game is. That combat system is top-notch. Also, I LOVE the LINE-esque app and how they actually speak. As someone close to their age (I'm 21, and I'm pretty sure they range from 18-21), I find that they text extremely similar to how I do. They really avoided "How do you do, fellow kids?" territory with the translation, which is a huge relief.

Yeah, basically why I still stick to Nintendo after all this time, they're still willing to be super goofy and take chances and laugh at themselves, and just generally take everything a lot seriously than all the somber franchises around it.

I don't want to turn this into an FE thread but if we count this as an FE game I'd say it clobbers Fates and Awakening personally.

Edit: What's even more funny is I honestly prefer the Jpop idol stuff in SMT/FE to pretty much all of the "actual legitimate JPOP/Idol" stuff which is kind of sad in a sense. I kind of wish Kiria was an actual idol.

Oh yeah that jumped out at me too... the texting with the Gamepad thing can't believe I forgot to mention it. All the lower case and kind of just lame sort of bored scrawl "i don't know dumbass" kind of stuff kind of broke that stupid "art wall" we have in media where it can't sound like something that actually happens.

Or Tsubasa "OMG!" kind of genuine Valley Girl persona thing.

And just the fact that you check the gamepad like checking a phone to check texts.

I hate Tsubasa's texting because I am reminded of myself so much, haha. ESPECIALLY with her use of emoticons and stickers. Although like Touma, I tend to type in all lowercase for some reason. It really feels like it fleshes out their personalities, you know?

Haha! Well it's not so bad, I use a lot of emoticons sometimes myself. But yeah I agree, a lot of people text really differently from their kind of "public persona" and stuff like that so it was an interesting way to flesh out the characterization in a unique way.

Ok well I'm making more progress now, this game actually can be kind of challenging at times, didn't expect the special unique killer mob thing to be a thing.

I decided to play on Hard difficulty. The game wasn't too hard at first, the standard encounters are still easy, but the game decided to be like "YOU THOUGHT THIS WAS EASY FUCKK YOU DIEEE" all while being bright, poppy, and fantastic. I usually just needed to change my party and switch some weapons to change my weaknesses and resistances, which I love tinkering so a plus.

This game rules hard.

I'm still only on Chapter 3 because I've been distracted with games I've reviewed and now Monster Hunter Generations (not to mention my three day binge of Voltron: Legendary Defender...). I'm really liking the aesthetic of the dungeon designs, but the dungeons themselves can be so confusing to navigate, IMO.
