First, Threads of Fate isn't a Jrpg.

It's not?

It's a type of RPG that was developed in Japan. I'd call that a JRPG.

In the first place I never thought of JRPG and action RPG as being in any way incompatible...

Well actually that wasn't it but it was one of the games I was looking for, so I decided to call it quits on hunting around yesterday...  I believe in the jrpg I was talking about, you use a blueish axe like this?  Not all blue... but blueish.

Maybe, but categorizing something as a JRPG and then comparing it to a final fantasy title is INCREDIBLY misleading if your game is more like Alundra, Zelda, or in this case Threads of Fate. Also, I think using the term jrpg at this point to describe a type of rpg is pretty outdated unless you're referring to an old style of rpg...I could be a little offbase here but I feel like I'm not the minority in this line of thinking...

Not everything is about you, avalanch!  We have important pedantry to discuss.

It doesn't really matter if that one was a jrpg or not, since it wasn't the one I was initially looking for but managed to stumble upon anyways.  Anyways, I would categorize it as a arpg.

As far as I am concerned JRPG v WRPG at this point is more of a story telling style difference thing these days than anything else. JRPG style RPGs have a specific main character with little to no choice in who the character is (basically occasional route choices at most). WRPG style RPGs have a customizable main character that is defined more by the player than in a JRPG style RPG. There is still some blending between the two styles occasionally, but this is generally how I view it. And I know all of you were wondering how I specifically viewed the distinction. :p

Let's not do this.
