Assassin's Creed Origins
« on: June 26, 2017, 01:28:19 AM »
Anyone else interested in this? Going to Egypt and basically an attempt to be the very first canonical entry in the AC series.

I'm not really an AC fan, but for some reason I feel like playing it.

I dunno. I loved Enzo's arc in AC2's series, but AC3 felt like a step down, skipped Revolution and was so bored with the one set in London that I just put it down. Just felt like I was just redoing a lot of boring fetch quests and not really experiencing anything that different / aweinspiring.

I'd have to see if the reviews make it sound like a fun RPG hybrid or a boring sandbox game with 5000 markers to clear off.

I hated AC3 more than anything but I just can't push the AC series out for some reason, it tries really hard to be engaging I guess.

I'm interested in the setting, as I've always been with this series. But yeah, I'll have to wait for reviews, too. I really want it to be good, but you just never know with Ubisoft...

For those interested, here are my thoughts on the game so far.

90% of your impressions praised the game. Then the final paragraph damns it to hell for reasons that aren't contained in the body of the work. I'm sorry, but if your opinion was that it was bland out of the gate, you should've provided more context and have more of a focus on what you felt could be done better - especially since it is a preview and theoretically it could get better. Instead you made it sound like a really fun game that you don't want others to play. :/

Should you really be posting that analysis publicly?  In any case, I've never played an Assassin's Creed game.  This could be a good introduction to the series, but I don't know.

Under no circumstances should Quentin Tarantino be allowed to befoul Star Trek.

Considering how many other sites are posting previews - even hour-long game videos! - I doubt they'd be doing anything wrong here. If anything, it'd be really bad publicity if Ubisoft tried to keep people quiet about a game that they want people to believe is shaking up a notoriously same-y series.

This is past the embargo date, there is nothing wrong with posting this when reviews are going up. There's so many people keeping an eye on what we post, you don't need to worry about us.

Sorry for the very late reply.  I was asking about Mickeymac92's public criticism of the preview, not the preview itself.  I found it odd that he would publicly critique the content of a fellow staff member.  That was what I was questioning, not the posting of the preview.

In any case, after reading the review of Assasin's Creed: Origins, I find myself less enthused about the game.  The clumsy handling of the RPG elements makes me a lot less interested in the game since I've never been a fan of the franchise.

Yeah, it definitely doesn't warrant a playthrough just as an action RPG experience. If you like Assassin's Creed, I definitely think you should play it. I'm a big fan of the series, and I thought Origins did a lot of fun stuff with the narrative and did a good job setting up the next entry. If you're just looking for an action RPG in general, there's just other ones out there that I can easily recommend. Horizon now has a complete edition that includes its expansion, and it does a much better job with its open world; Tales of Berseria has an absolutely killer combat system, a fun plot, and a great cast; and Ys VIII, which has satisfying combat and a great progression loop, can be played on the go or at home.

I do hope the next entry in AC incorporates RPG elements like Origins did, but I I also hope it incorporates them better.

Yeah.  I just realized it.  I think I mixed your survey icon with a staff icon, which is embarASSing considering I have one myself.  In any case, my bad.
