Granstream Saga.

Take a look at the first few paragraphs at least. This game may warrant a serious look afterall.

I didn't care for it.  It was interesting and different...but the game is kinda dated I hate to say.  
...nothing freaked me out more than the fact that character sprites lacked faces...

Looking through the boards quickly, the Quintet tie to this wasn't something completely new here, but I didn't know of the manner until I looked at that.

1) the music is excellent.

2) Quintet has been doing *item design* (yes, item design...the icons/images for items) with Gust for the last few years.

3) I didn't know the dude that did Granstream went on to do Orphen. I was just looking at the Orphen RPG the other day thinking "hmm...maybe it's worth a play?"

I actually somewhat enjoyed the game up until the difficulty went through the roof and I had to spend like a couple hours on the final boss.  Or at least I remember it taking forever.  Man, I would have been mad if I lost that fight... >_> <_<

The Orphen game seemed pretty boring to me, though I didn't play much. Some of the plot bits I saw near the end seemed decent enough though.

I enjoyed this game back in the day, even though it had the worst case of "bad guy out of nowhere" I've ever seen, worse than FFIV even.

I might add this to the pile of old-ass action RPGs I'm playing at the moment.

Played it to, back in the day. Yeah, faceless characters was weird. I still have it in good condition in my cupboard.

Having to choose near the end was a bit painful though. xD

I used to play it, but I've been stuck on one portion of the game all those years ago that I can't seem to get past. This is before I discovered gamefaqs too :p

Quite a hard game too, but it was fun. For some reason, when enemies appear out of nowhere and attacked me, it did freak me out a little (I was 10-12 or so) yet, normal random encounters don't bug me in other games. Weird.

I still got my old copy.

I rented that pile and hated it.  The voice acting was simply atrocious (especially that damned bird.  I wished Korky would put a kork in it), the story, graphics, and gameplay were mediocre at best, and the two heroines were both unattractive and annoying.  

I refuse to believe Granstream Saga was part of the Blazer series.  The series ended with Terranigma as far as I'm concerned.
